  • Thanks Junior, but would love to have your mechanic skills though. You've certainly set the bar very high my friend Here's hoping I can get somewhere around your power figures or maybe a little more

And with the help of Mr Walsh and a few cool tallies of Coopers Pale Ale we are well on our way. Seriously Gavin is handier than Benny Hill after a few too many sweet sherry's

Now some good and bad news with the KMAC strut tops. The bad news was Kevin didn't know I had FK coilovers on which have a narrower spring ID than the stock Polo springs. So the alloy hat or top coil spring seat that comes with the kit was a little too large. So rang Kevin and explained the situation and he started on a set of new hats that will fit the FK's exactly. Now that's customer service Should be here Monday hopefully. In fact he's come up with a product that will take both ID's that he's going to ship with the kit from now on. Just a sleeve option or something like that.

But we decided to test fit the rest to check how easy adjustability is etc. So first the struts came out

The good thing about the FK's is the narrow springs they use which won't easily foul on anything at extreme adjustment settings

So then we bolted up the unit to work out the right orientation

Then put the strut in minus the top coil spring seat

Then played with the settings and it was pretty easy to be honest to change them. First impressions are it's a great design but will confirm in a few days when the whole unit is in. But from what we saw it's a well made and clever product!

Please note if you have a strut brace you don't have the use the little triangular pieces seen under the nuts. Then finally we Gavin marked out the correct orientations for the refit. I can see how some people got that wrong.

    • And then the Fast & Furious wing!

First we lined up the feet to get things center

      Then drilling began

Now the tricky part was how to access the bolts to get the nuts on. Please look away if vehicular surgery makes you squeamish

      Then some tidying up

      And the final product

      • Is that the finished pic? just an observation should be at least 1.5 thread safety, same as aircraft, minimum, in good hands there so should be good. Keen to see how that goes as the 6n2 has the same top mount.

        • Not everyone's cup of tea I'm sure but it won't as out of place after the front splitter goes on I think. In fact as soon as I hit the freeway on the way home people started taking pictures from cars along side me which is a first

We did some test driving and it certainly does the job. Stability has been greatly increased. Very happy with this mod and can't wait to hit the track.

Big thanks again to Gavin for a very constructive day. Also got a ride in his mental polo. Seriously Gav get that thing on a dyno I think we may have a new Australian power champion.

Maybe they think it is from the soon to be released Fast & Furious lol

Camber tops looking the goods, cant wait to see them set up, wonder how mach camber they will give, you it give you any idea ?

              • Bucket loads Troy! The last shot of the top installed shows max negative camber which was massively amplified down at the hub area.

Me too , im keen to have the 6n2 dumped when im wiping the 9n3s LOl , minus wings for me though. Im in the not my cup of tea category. But if it works, tops. cant at all knock it as all the fast stuff in the racing world needs them and they to be fair some of them dont look great either.

                  • I'm not sure what to say... Same colour, same rims, but the wing just jumps out at me...

                    Camber potential looks good.

                    • Yeah luckily the wing itself is removable so will be coming off until needed. Plus I could hardly get my average fuel consumption down under 8's which is very unusual for the Devil so better off without it for daily driving.

Plus forgot to mention the KMAC strut tops replace the entire EOM rubber top seen here

So this is why they won't add any height to your current set up.

                      • Love the look with the RPF1's and the wing.

Is it still within the height regulations for WTAC?

                        • Tops seem pretty good, be good to hear back how it goes, the 6N2 tops are the same but not sure if same size though. thats a fair difference in consumption with the wing.

                          • Looking more purposeful now Ant. Love the brakes and the camber tops. Will certainly look the part when circulating the track, perhaps not so purposeful on the commute to work though, lol.

The wing is running lots of rake on it so you'll be getting lots of drag which'll impact top speed. An old mate ran a similarly sized wing on his GT Starlet, took some fiddling to find a balance. I was going to ask about fuel consumption after looking at the pics too, lol.

Was going to comment on the wing angle as well. Looks too steep atm, but then I'm comparing it against superkarts, F3, GT cars where I'm a little more familiar. Have you got a profile pic of the wing without the wingplates on it ? as from the pics I'd say you almost want that leading surface flat (level with the ground) as it has the upward sweep at the end on it. Will be interested to see your results, especially once you add the front splitter.

Cheers Clay! Unfortunately it's about 6.5cms higher than the roof line at it's highest point so closer to the event will have to get a shorter pedestal engineered. But we may have a new game plan to help warm up as such to a big event like WTAC. We are now thinking of joining the local Time Attack series held at Lakeside and QR throughout the year then go down to Sydney for the big one. The advantage of this is we can enter in the first two classes - Street and Performance. The only difference is Street has no aero allowed and you must have street tyres (no Semi's) then Performance aero is unrestricted and you can use semi's So we can run in both if we wanted with a little bit of on track modification.

Mate you would like chatting to Kevin actually, right up your ally and I'm sure he could make something to fit the silver rocket!

Thanks Sean! Yeah a bit wankerish for the trip to work lol! For the rake yes you're right we did notice that but it's actually the lowest setting as well as being naturally lower because of the slope of the roof. I might send a picture to APR to see what they think.

Thanks Dean, I'll get a shot without the plates as you suggest to see, but as I said I don't think I can get it any flatter
Can't wait for the splitter but won't have it until after the next outing to Lakeside which might work in my favour actually to see what it adds to the equation.

                                Cheers!
