Yeah I reckon I could get down to 1:16 without any changes. Looking at getting slotted front brakes done later in the year.

I'd love to do a track day but 1. I'm a chicken and 2. it would be too hard to take time off from work.

      Have fun guys

BUT, im not gonna ruin my car. Keep it a track virgin. I got the mods to go but why ruin your car on the track?

Ruin? You have done repeated runs to see what your best 0-100 time is. Tracking does not have to mean destroying, for me it will be learning how the car handles, what it does when braking (until the stocks fade on the second lap).

Non competitive tracking is likely to have little effect on your car unless you choose to push it to its limits. I took my 2003 Impreza to the track and took some life off the tyres, but otherwise, no issues. Think you have a strange perception of what its like to put a car on the track.

Don't sell it without having ever played with it in a controlled environment...

Who said anything about ruining your car? Yeah it reduces the life of parts, but motorsport is expensive. Spending all that money on mods for the road where you can't use them is more crazy in my books. My car unmodded hits 170km/h at Oran Park and can round up lots of bigger more powerful cars, Eastern Creek is more of a power track and my times suck there. Why wouldn't you take it to the track

Lora it's loads of fun, have you ever been to a track day? There are some places that run weekend days, actually CircuitClub just recently ran a girls only track day down at Marulan Driver Training.

Na your brakes will last you much longer then 1 lap. Normally go out for 7-8 laps before needing to come in, you will get tired before your car gives up.

Nah ive never been on a track day, although i would really like to some time. I'd like to know where I can and can't push the polo to become more confident in knowing its limits.

Hmm i might have to keep an eye out in the future - even a defensive driving course would be good fun..

You definitely don't need to drive your car to ruins to enjoy the track - even at 80% (of your car's potential and/or your own) you'll have a great time and reach straight line speeds and cornering Gs that you won't often see legally on a public road.

The only adverse affects of a sensible track day will be some more rapid consumption of fuel, rubber and brake pads - nothing you wouldn't get spending the day driving rapidly along winding public roads.

I've even tracked my (completely stock) 4WD a couple of times, and despite being a 2500kg behemoth by treating the car with respect (ie only running 7 or 8 laps at a time to avoid the tyres and brakes getting too hot) the car left the track in perfect condition.

These guys are really good, Driving Solutions. Based at Eastern Creek, they run Track days and Driver training days. The driver training days on the skid pan are sooo much fun, perhaps even more fun then a track day. You get to slide in the wet and see the difference with ESP on and off. I did this a few months after getting my car. A Polo GTI day out there with us all would be lots of fun.

This is not an attack on Floody or anyone just my opinion on track days..

I have been to many track days and love them.... BUT not with my car. No No way.

Track days, kill your brakes, tyres and suspension, not to mention the strain on motor and gearbox components. Your car will feel a fair bit looser for a track day. Prepare for all the maintenence bills down the track.

Yes I have tried a few 0-100km/h sprints in my car, but im not going full throttle for hours on end..

Motorsport is fun but when the cost of maintenence and component failure comes out of your pocket....thats crazy.

ive been to a few, wakefield and eastern creek. first time i went to wakefield my pog only had little over 1,500km. it is now 43,000km and still going strong. My pads and tyres obviously didn't last long, but i'm going to try and get a set of green stuffs and semis. stock ones didnt last very long on the track, esp when its a hot day.

but i have to say track days are a whole lot of fun. speeding off the streets, what more u want.

Why are you posting in a thread about a track day if you have no intention of attending?

It's a continuation of how he posts in the Polo forum telling us all the problems with the car ! He's a glass half-empty man I do believe.
