Has anyone had their radiator replaced AFTER warranty. Obviously this is a known issue with most of the POLO GTIs and maybe POLOs in general?

If we all write to VW Australia surely something can be done, like a product recall of sorts?

Radiators should last longer then 3 years, my 2006 gti has done 54,000kms and is leaking.
hmmm, sounds like a common problem after warranty expires... will they give us money back prolly not...

Ouch. I've heard people get radiators from VW for $300.

I had mine replaced under warranty for a 2006.... I'd be seeing if they can do a good will repair since it is a known problem

I have no warranty I bought the car second hand 10 months ago. I had a racv report done they said it was in mint condition but when I took it for a service they said my radiators leaking. My mechanic said labour would be around 300 to replace it + 300 for the radiator.

Mine has started leaking at 40000.

I bought it end of 2007 so 6 months out of warranty damn...

Too many reasons to not like this car anymore

                  Rattle pisses me off
Constant Air vent having a mind of its own PISSES me off..
Radio losing its mind or not reading cd's
                  Sunroof opening by itself..
                  And now leaking radiator
within 6 months 2 people backed into the car denting it (no $ to fix )

                  Selling time

                    Hi Guys,

I notice the coolant light comes on every so often, don't know if the radiator is leaking or not though. Is this what occurs for you guys?

I've had this lately as well, might check my radiator later today as i've only got 2 months left of warranty!

allegiance that is exactly how mine started.

If coolant light comes in it is most likely a coolant leak. You won't see any leaking on the floor, but if you get under the car and have a good look at the radiator you should spot it. Get the dealer to look at it regardless (it is a common problem) and at least if they dont find anything they will have it recorded in their system so if it becomes obvious out of warranty you have a leg to stand on.

Happening to me as well. The same symptoms. Radiator light started flashing more and more frequently. Originally happened probably a year ago, but dealer said there was a pressure vacuum... they did something and it fixed it for a couple of month, then started happening again. Didn't think much of it.

Finally, did a check up before warranty ran out at a different dealer, still nothing, but they did replace my radio head unit. Found out about 3 months ago that I need a new radiator, and I'm out of warranty since last August. In the mean time, I've gone through about 2 bottles of coolant... =(

Cygnus - if you have a full dealer service history and noted coolant issues during your warranty period, you may find the dealer will honour the problem, particularly as they are a known problem on the GTI.
