Don't forget though the leather option includes heated front seats also. But yeah I had no idea the back seats weren't leather either!

Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled
After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.
Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before.
We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

It is also a $2490 option for leather.
Having come from a Forester XT Lux with leather, I would not go it again quickly if you car spends time outside during the day. Why? On hot days when you jump in to drive you stick to the seat. I would rather a sunroof (which is what I opted for), but, hey that is a whole other can of worms!!

As to the lifespan of the leather im unsure... mine get the leather treatement every 2-3 months and I also have a slip on cover over the drivers seat which is most commonly used to protect it.. Other seats are rarely used so i leave them naked.
Ill post a photo of my leather interior and if someone can post the table top interior... its apples and oranges.. makes the car in my opinion... just gotta care for them more..

S
and the only benefit of leather seats is that they are easier to clean. (assuming you have dark coloured leather).
They look older than cloth after a couple of years (especially the drivers seat)... are way too hot during sunny days (burning hot!), and way too cold during winter..
been lurking for a gti as well.. g'luck!

If you ask me I think the leather interior looks 1000x better than the very naff 'interlagos' tarten fabric. Honestly makes the car look far more classy and makes the extra cost worth it. The dark colour also contrasts off my red duco so much better than the cloth trim. I dare say the dark leather would also look hot in the silver & white cars as well.
Leather is also much cooler in summer than most people think and the heated seats in winter are an utter joy. Get quality window tint and always use a front wind screen sun visor and that should help to prolong the leather. Anyway thats my 2c.APR V2 Tuned, APR Dogbone mount, APR R1 DV, K&N Panel Filter, SEAT Intake, Forge TIP & FSB, Bilstein & H&R, Whiteline RSB, Full Milltek 2.5" exhaust

I've had mine for 3 years and its been chipped since day 2 and have not needed a new clutch yet. A chip alone will not break a GTI, so buy 1 with confidence if its been chipped. Rather make sure its not been abused by its previous owner.
When i was car searching, i came across 2 chipped cars. Both owners were cautious about me driving the car but took me for a spin themselves (which at that stage i was happy with, id rather see how someone else drives their car first). Both guys driving styles warned me off straight away. One guy made me have to supress some laughter actually, he looked like he was holding on for grim death in the drivers seat haha.9N3 Polo GTI - 91 MkII GTI - 16 B8 Passat 132tsi Comfortline
