  • Help me find a GTI!

    Hi Forumers,

I'm on the lookout for a GTI, but really not sure about how much spare $$$ i'm going to have over $18000 as I'm in the midst of buying a property.

I'm trying to sell my RS Impreza and find it very slowwwwww...
    Anyone want to swap? http://www.carpoint.com.au/used-car/...65&distance=10

A big thank you to all the regular posters and helpfull members, I've been reading through so many of the threads (think I've got about 10K worth of Mods lined up, now I just need to win the lottery).

If anyone see's a GTI going cheap, is selling theirs (largely unmodded as I won't be able to spend the $$$ to pay the deserved asking price) or something similar, can you please post it here.

I'm in Sydney, FYI so it would be interesting to see how cheap they are going in other cities / states, but wouldn't be much good to me.

Not fussed about the colour Particularly, think all the variety's suit.

I've stopped test driving the GTI's until I sell mine as it makes me want to drop my price to get into one sooner...

Be patient... Be calm... The turbo can wait....

    Cheers

      Thanks

Yeah I saw that one, it sold for $17 something and is now re-listed.

Think that there is something wrong with it, I asked if I could take it to my Mechanic and didn't get a response.

ah ok...yeah probably worth steering clear of then...alarm bells and all that

One of my clients is Volkswagen Financial Services and they sell off batches of second hand cars...i'll keep an eye out, theres probably another batch coming up soon.

allthough its tempting , i would stay clear of ebay for buying cars ive had many near misses and i vow never to deal with them again.the exception of course would be to bring along a mechanic like you said you did.the cheepest ive scene was 20000 and that was from someone on the forum.

            Hi,

I reckon you could pick one up with about 30,000km for $18-$20k..

But I would seriously wait for one with leather interior.. they are just beautiful.. Im not a fan of the stock interiors "kilt" trim.. Makes me wanna wear a kilt to work.. or a flanalette shirt..

I say its better to wait and get the right car...

I have the leather interior and it makes the car look much more expensive..

Also the chip is almost a must so maybe look for one already chipped and save a few bob that way..

I also have leather and it was really worth the purchase IMO, especially because i was looking to keep the car for a good few years i thought it would be a good purchase. Extremely comfortable and tight grippin seats they are too. and with the red stitchin! very nice.

Considering i got a brand new with leather for 29150 drive away no more to pay etc, then ~20,000 should get you a pretty new one.

I quite like the Retro styled 'tartan' seats, but then, I am a Scot!

                      Leather

I'm yet to get inside a Leather one...

Really like the idea of buying your Petrina, but just don't think I can manage the stretch....

Well, first things first, gotta put down the 5% on the apartment this afternoon (about the same cash, but with no turbo spool).

Problem with leather is that it starts to age rapidly and after 3 years the interior with leather will look "old" compared to the cloth.

I've had many cars with leather and it is always the case no matter how you treat the leather. AND VW's not renowned for using the best leather out there, best leather actually to be found in .... a Honda ....

Also the leather on a Polo is seat fronts only. The back is fake leather. Not worth the $2K IMO. I looked at it long and hard and gave it a miss.

id be weary of anything sub 18k

when i was buying (12 months or so ago) i managed to snaffle a car down to 19k (then i found out it was a repairable writeoff). Anyone with an even half decent car was 21-22k or more. I bought a new one instead.

I'll be selling mine with ~40k on the clock for ~$18k in about 10 months. No mods (keep in mind a lot of the guys with chips are having clutch problems very early on).

As Guy said to me last week (very true) "... a little bit of mechanical sympathy goes a long way ...."

I've had mine for 3 years and its been chipped since day 2 and have not needed a new clutch yet. A chip alone will not break a GTI, so buy 1 with confidence if its been chipped. Rather make sure its not been abused by its previous owner.
