  • Porsche Brakes

    Hi All,

I was wondering if anyone has fitted Porsche brakes to their cars (perferrable Polo but interested in any conversions as long as VW). I've been looking at Brake options and there are a few kits available in th UK as well as just the mounting brackets for good prices.

If anyone has done this please share your results.
    Cheers,

    John

Fair enough. I'm currently running Ferodo pads and Martini fluid and I'm reasonable happy with the result. The only reason I'm considering new brakes is that I'm looking later on down the track at possibly doing the stage 2 or 3 APR upgrade and I'm a firm believer in making sure you have the right brakes to pull you up (especially with 150kW+ atw).

Guy from APR has raced his polo with K04 upgrade, CAI, FMIC ect. ect. and used massive 6 pot Alcon BBK and said the weak point was flex in the fire wall. I think the thread was called Polo on Roids.

When I get a little closer to being able to do the upgrade Guy is definately someone I'll be talking to.

I think 6 pots are a little overkill. A nice set of 4 pots should do the job. Worst case scenario I'll look at the Brembo package but for the time being I want to know what the other options are like. From the info i've been able to find the Porsche option seems to be the most cost effective.

You can always get a master cylinder brace to stop the firewall flex.
            Cheers,

            John

As jasn78 mentioned unless you're going to do some serious track time then the S3 package is all that is needed.

I woouldn't spend $2500 on brakes for street use.

Porsche the most cost effective option?

                  lol, that's ridiculous.

                  1) they don't bolt on, need all sorts of modifications
                  2) they're porsche... so they aren't cheap to start with

How much would it be for an S3 upgrade using NEW parts?

dont know new prices as you could ring up audi for a price on the parts but new slotted rotors and ebc red pads and 2nd hand calipers with new seals was around 1k fitted

There is a company in the UK selling the complete bolt on kit for GBP 795 including calipers, disks, braided lines, pads and mounts. Alternativly you can get the the mounting blocks by themselves for about AU$250.00 so it's not as expensive as you may think. Could end up being a saving of about $500 - $800 over the APR Brembo kit, and a major advantage to that is that the Porsche brakes are Brembo's anyway!!!!

Are the S3 calipers 2 pot or 4 pot?

Thanks for that Jason. I'd be looking at at least a 2 pot upgrade otherwise I don't see the point in upgrading at all (especially when I could look at brand new 4 pots for 1k more).

I think it would be a worthwhile upgrade if I was only looking at a stage 1 upgrade with a couple of other bolt on mods but as I'm looking for alot more that's why I want to go big. No use being able to go quick if you can't stop!
