if it is 8x17 ET35 I need to use 205/40 R17 or 225/35 R17
If it is 7x17 ET38 I need to use 205/40 R17 or 225/35 R17

215/40 R17 is only for Cross and Fun polo.

What are 'Cross & Fun' Polo?

I have the GTi - Just picked up 17x7's and rang around for tyres.....

Ian Diff told me i need either 215/35/17 or 215/40/17

Another place told me 205/40/17

Which is correct? Currently have stock with the Conti SC2's

Every where that i read outside here seems to mention that 215/35R17 & 225/35R17 would fit the polo gti. The problem is my trust is in VWW and nothing else . It seems the 35 profile makes a bit difference with the rubbing but how would that work with the lowering. Whats the widest and lowest anyone on here has gone and have they been having problems?

i'm running 215/40 R17 with 8x17 rims, without any problem, so i guess 225/35 R17 will be fine too!

Is your car lowered or not...if yes how much lower than stock?

Since i haven't lower it, but soon will get it lower with Eibach 30mm

I don't think you can get away with 225s/40s or 35s when lowered, there isn't much room on stock tyres with my 35mm H&Rs on as it is.

Every wheel and tyre place i have called wont give me quotes or estimates on any oz wheels at all...

I have no idea why they are doing so - lol its really irritating..

im running 205/45 on my 17's a little rubbing but i think my rims are 7.5 wide not 7s so might make the difference

I've got 17x7's and i run 205/40 R17's. IMO they look awesome when wrapped around the wheel, there's a bit of tyre stretch which always looks good, but enough surface area on the road for minimal wheel slip.

I seriously think 215's are too wide for 7" wide rims. I really prefer the look of stretched tyres rather than uglier wider tyres for more grip.

Is there really that much difference in aesthetics and grip running 205s in comparison to 215s? Safety is a priority, id rather have tyres that grip better...

I can gaurantee you that 225/35R17 DO NOT fit. That's what the dealer fitted to my car before delivery - they rubbed like a thai massage parlour.

Agree, 225s in any profile will not fit. They rub against the inside of the fender. Simply too wide.

215s will fit if 40 profile unless your car is lowered then unfortunately 205s are the go.
