Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

I must admit at this point to owning a wrx. Had it from new for 3 years from '98. I loved this car and when it came time in 2007 for a new car this was top of my list. However the insurance and the reputation this car has gained in the interim put me off. I did some research, looking for the best bang for buck and came up with the pogo. Mine has the K04 turbo and although I haven't had it on a dyno yet, it is supposed to, according to APR put out 180kw - 150kw atw I guess? I do know from the bum dyno that it's in gear acceleration is far superior to the stock wrx I had - and a whole lot easier on petrol.

I was just wondering how you decided on the Polo.

Congrats on the purchase mate, how long is the 'waiting game' expected to take?

You'd better not tell some of the guys on that rexnet forum, you'll be banished for life!! HULK will never forgive you

Was not trying to forum bash, there is some good people over there. But some drove me away from it, so I stuck with the Vic WRX Club stuff. Was very active with it all over there both online and in person, but now that I am married with a 2.5 year old the time is lacking! Living in country Vic does not help either!

I am hoping later next week, but the whole process can be a little slower when leasing too. They (the dealer) are trying to source the car now. I am mates with one of the sales guys, which helps.

You will get bad eggs, wankers, DH's with any cars. Generally the cheaper the car gets the more chance you have of getting them. Only due to there being more that can afford them.

I did >180,000kms in my 6.5 years of ownership of my 2 Subaru's, lots of stories with them. They are a great platform, and do the job well of a nice daily driven car if setup right. I learnt the hard way with my first one re poor setup, the second was much better.

This is what I just sold, miss it a heap! But the Polo poses a saving per week for me and still some fun.

            Cheers

very nice Forester you have/had there. I've always loved the Forester GT/XT's but the new shape just doesn't sit right with me. It's gone from an aggresive looking sports wagon to a lame looking family wagon.

Those rims are Lenso Samurai SC02's aren't they? Nice choice in wheel, I was looking at a set recently.

                    Cheers guys.

Yeah, they are the Lenso's. Nice and light for a 18 that was not supppper exxy. From memory they were ~$900 rims only for the 4.

                      I think all drivers mature.

So its ok for WRX drivers to switch to VW GTis. Just a different car to be appreciated on a different level to a WRX.

WRX for its boy racers and when they grow up a little and just want a bit of comfort, nice power and a well built car, maybe a switch to VW..

The boy racers want something with a little more street cred so they will stay with a subaru WRX but when they dont care anymore about impressing the next bloke with their shiney wheels and blow off valves thats when they usually come across and usually by then they are more mature and if anything want to escape the stereotyped WRX owner.

Hey drnick, I too was on gtrydaz a couple of years back, SeanGT. Was quite an active member in brisbane and on the forum. Had a modded burgandy 01. Good to hear you've switched and found this place. I've only had my polo GTi a few weeks and loving it at the moment.

So far I've found plenty of good info and friendly people here, not that I've met anyone yet.

It's a totally different car to the foz (for better and worse), but appreciate it for what I can do and not what it can't.

Cheers Sean! Yeah I was active over there from the early days, when the site died due to the speed I hardly went there.

Yes, here seems like a good place. I already know not to ask what ECU flash is best from reading around.

Only have a few basic mods planned for this one after the last few cars. A reflash has been worked into the purchase price tho.

                          Cheers
