I cant see why some of the Polo GTI owners feel the need to prove themselves against owners of other brands. Bit like a small man syndrom or what???
I enjoy my Golf but I dont feel the need to have to justify my choice of car or mods. I know it can out accelerate a lot of other vehicles on the roads I also know that if I got beaten in an illegal traffic light drag then I would look dumb.

The normal CCX is right on the Veyron's heels everywhere, posting identical 1/4 mile times and staying right with it all the way to the near-400km/h barrier. The new CCXR is significantly faster, posting almost the same 0-100km/h as the AWD DSG launch-controlled Veyron and a 4.4 sec 0-160km/h against the Veyron's 5.3. The gap gets wider and wider too. That's what happens when you give a car 770kg lighter with bettero aerodynamics 24kW more power then what its competing with.
How about we get back on topic please.
not interested in exotic cars in the Polo section!
no leave pumpe duse alone, it makes him feel good making ridiculous comparisons.... like comparing a Polo GTI to a GTi180, Clio 197, Turbo Cooper S and Punto Abarth. you'd expect them to be superior judging by the price difference .
also, he obviously has no idea what a Polo GTI sounds like .

this is what i was saying before (i may not have said it but i was thinking it), in a golf GTI you don't cop stick for driving a 'girls car' so you don't know. if no one haggled me, i'm sure i wouldn't have to prove myself but because i do get haggled by idiots, i DO prove myself. there's no better feeling than putting someone in their place when they think they are better than you....especially cocky V8 drivers.
I know what the OP is saying, my mates bag me out yet we both know they respect my car as they either drive 10 year old Astra's or company camry's or family lancers and have much much less fun on their way to work or on the weekend. I don't get it from people on the street, I've never had someone in any car say anything from their window.
To the guys going on about beating things and mods working for them ... A mate came to Wakefield in his bog stock XR6 he had a great day. Was I faster then him? Yes. Did I care much? No. I'd done 5-6 days there and he'd never been to the track before, he was way faster then me down the straight and then he'd let me go after the first corner and gap would bet bigger.
Anyone can spend money on their car to make it go fast in a straight line, at the drags it does take skill in a manual to launch right and change gears at the right time. I've spent less then $500 on my car and get more joy out of cutting time from my laps then beating some person I don't know in a car I don't care about. If I wanted to go fast in a straight line and burn tyres I would have bought a V8. Going round corners fast is way more fun and requires more skill IMHO. Just another POV to throw into the mix.
Also, the TLGP stories here turns me off reading the Polo forums, it makes me think I've accidentally clicked on fullysikhondas.com
Polo GTI has a girly image because it looks girly and/or grandpa spec, sounds it standard and performs that way standard.
have you read any reviews at all on the Polo GTI. As you are well aware, the engine is capable of handling a lot higher HP, but VW wanted a sporty little hatchback 'that wouldn't kill people'. also, why would VW make a small hatchback at a low price that could out-perform the superior Golf GTI .....you just don't think pumpe duse!
these comparisons you make, the engine's don't have the same room for improvement and they aren't forced to be de-tuned due to superior models. the only one that comes close is the Clio 197 which would need significant improvements to match/beat the Megane F1 225. these are why these cars are able to be sold for more, because more work has gone into them in regards to handling, power etc........VW had limits with the Polo GTI. hopefully this will change/be improved with the upcoming Golf VI range and the Polo GTI will be a real contender still with a low price.
I just come back from a great weekend driving around Thredbo in the Kosi national Park. There were 5 MINI's and I had no problems being quicker then all of them, sure put a pro drive in them and prob be a diff story.

We all know those mini drivers are slow anyway
Megan came down and did a vortex run with all minis and one golf gti, I was still much quicker than all of them in my stock polo. I was even told I was the melbourne version of floody lol

haha yeah that sounds like Avril. You would have had loads of fun with us on the weekend, fastest, most twisty roads I've ever driven.
Jeezz...Go for a bit of a drive for 4 days and leave the forum, then come back to a smoldering wreck of a thread...Hahahahaha...
After getting my car APR'ed on Friday(Cheers Shane for the helping hand, and Guy for the trial and chat), I have found that the Thing is an economic weapon(7.1L/100 between Brissy and Sydney), and having a very packed boot and back seat(as a few of the boys will attest to after the drive yesterday), I still managed to smoke a VE SS in Hexham today(with the blokes wife cackaling away in the passenger seat)
I do love V8's, but I have a love for hot hatches that will never die(I got it from the old man).
I have often been regailed by my old man about his antics in his Datsun 1600 that he used to terrorise V8's in back in the late 60's and early 70's. It happened back then, and it will happen in the future.
As for getting called a girls car, cop it sweet and have fun with it...My last car was a Barina, and all the guys I work with in the workshop have V6's and V8's
