Nope they are assembled in Spain. Also, a good chunk of the parts are made in Germany.

Early Polo GTIs were all made in Spain. (like mine as well) later models ... late 2006 onwards are all made in South Africa.

You want a nifty feature ..... any BMW's wipers slow to slowest intermittent automatically when stationary and speed up to to the setting you had it on when it moves off again. I miss that ....

Also on a BMW. When you select reverse left mirror changes down so you can see the road next to the car ... and airconditioning automatically cuts out for the 1st 10 seconds when you move off from standstill to give you max responsive power...... gotta love some of those German features .....

Johan, mine is a late 07 build and it's built in Spain.

BMW had that wiper function ages ago, but that reverse mirror thing must be new. It's not hard to guess how much you love those BMWs.

According to the VIN code, mine was made in Spain also, and mine is an August 07 build.

I think some Golfs do this, but only if you have electric seats with memory or somesuch to get the controller that makes it happen....

I believe it helps you to avoid kerbing your alloys when parallel parking.

Yeah I love them .... ... however only 2 models in their entire range I'd buy today ... 135i and M3 .....

Also ... I think the VW GTIs (Polo & Golf) are far better value for money...

On the build location .... I suspect VW sources the GTI's from both Spain and South Africa currently, depending on where they can get a shipment from.

Would be interesting to see from the Polo owners here where their cars were built to get an idea .... also may be related to the gbox issue some Polo's have.

IIRC all R32s were built in SA and 3 door Golf Mk V GTIs were built in Germany, while the 5 door GTIs were built in SA. They've stopped making Golf GTIs at the moment, and the Mk 5.5 Golf GTIs will all be built in Germany (given how little has changed mechanically I can't bring myself to call a facelifted Golf Mk 5 a Mk 6 )

Some made in Germany, others (Barina) made in Spain...

Ford Focus does this too.

I was just going off this thread you started a while ago. My 11th character is 'Y', stating that it was built in Pamplona, Spain.

Both this car and my last car (2004 Barina SRI) were built in Spain, and I have had no major issues with both.

hahahahaha.......i got that yesterday from someone standing behind me in our office basement. it happens to me all the time.

a guy ran over to my window yesterday and told me my light was out.....so i told him that euro's only have one reverse light and the other is a rear fog light.....and conveniently there was a Passat reversing 2 spots down....."there, look at that car reversing, only one reverse light".

Its not really a VW feature... most... cars that feature a rear wiper have that feature.

lol @ the reverse light thing. My old Clio 172 had two reverse lights and two rear fog-lights. Go French taillight design... lmao
