Johan, these are available in the size you want and don't look too much different to the R1R...

it's all about how you drive. If i'm not careful I can easily spin the wheels in the mk 1 and audi, neither have heaps of power. But if i drive carefully, no such issues.

I've heard/read the stock conti's are bad, but unless they're complete rubbish, I wouldn't bother, imo. Doesn;t rain that much as it is Can't be worse than silica based 155's on a ford laser! hah

I know this question must have been answered a million times before but i still don't seem to have a clear answer in my head. Does the POLO accommodate tyres wider than 205 without rubbing?

I'm going 215/45 R17 Toyo R888 semi slicks when I get the new tyres on the wheels I just bought...Mmmmm, semi slick goodness!!

I love the wet weather, but I only see the wet season for a couple of months of the year.

That's a lot of money to spend on a tyre that's going to rub on every bump.

With 215s you'll be wanting 40 series or lower.

Money don't bother me with them, I have the slush fund for that...They are $396 fitted each, and i won't use them that much, just for weekend squirts in the mountains up here, and you can only get them in a 45 series in the 215 size(you can get 205/40 R17 though). It will either be these or Faulken Azinis RT615.

So 215/17 R40 would definitely fit with no rubbing at all?

Yeah, I remember you saying that in an earlier thread. Mine is only lowered about 10mm, but alot stiffer, so I'm not too worried about rubbing anyway.

Wet weather only bothers me because the only time we seem to get any wet weather is the proceeding days after I have just washed my car. I don't think I've ever had a full week where the R remained clean after I washed it.

Grab the latest copy of Motor Magazine - theyve tested a range of tyres including 3 semi-slicks, the results are interesting.

The semi-slicks are great in the dry, but obviously not so good in the wet. Interestingly, I think it was the Pirelli P-zreo actually did worse in the wet than the semi-slicks?

mm. bridgestone re001s came out on top. (nice work jj)

also for wet weather the asymmetric eagle f1s dominate. pretty much as good performance in the wet as in the dry.. says something about their dry performance though...
