    Forge TIP here...

If you are having a problem with it, take it back to the APR dealer of to VW...Dose it surge when you turn the APR program off?

I have to say that I have experienced this surging as well. Much the same conditions described above. Quite infrequent. Usually pinning it in 3rd from about 60 to merge onto a freeway... as the speed increases there are minor surges in power. It doesn't happen when you rev it out through the gears or using 3rd continously at high revs.

NO mods except the APR V1. All other times there are no issues at all.

Still running V1 ... not sure I want to swap to V2 (don't want top end 'droop' after getting the breathing right and spending the bux to improve it - SEAT, K&N and Forge TIP).

From my experience... XR6T days... Ive had my car tuned many a time... An Auto masks up an average tune but the manual you can find any problems with the tune.. There was always issues with generic tunes on the XR6Ts as well..

Why arnt our cars being custom tuned??

I turned the car back to standard the car does not have this surging problem, APR V2 does have the problem.. APR Version 1 does not.

In third gear (APR V2) part throttle its fine, probably goes better half throttle than full throttle.. Im trying to live with it but when you notice something, you notice it again and again and again.. Its buggin me..

I think Im going back to APR V1.

            Joe,

I already suggested you go back to V1 (on the phone) - V2 is more demanding on the airflow up top & its now working fine on 40+ cars - but pretty much all of them have intake mods to help the car get the air it needs. And as we already discussed, V1 makes more HP up top, and the power curve is different - just swap it back !

I'm bumping this thread because what do you know, I think I experienced this very same phenomina today! So you guys reckon its the stock intakes?
My car is stock apart from the APR chip upgrade that I had done only a month ago.
Similar situation today when I gunned it in 3rd going onto the freeway dual onramp. Must admit I was a bit of a wally because I should have been going in 2nd but once I made the committment I just floored it but it took several seconds before the "omph!" and somewhere around 80+Kph I got his definate "Flutter" or "phfft phfft" where the car sorta stutters. Felt like a fuel blockage to me but I guess not? Hmm its obviously a 'flaw' if more than one of us has experienced it but for me it didn't concern me that much to be honest. It was very subtle but still evident. This is the one and only time I have experienced this after 1mth of pure APR chipped enjoyment. Its never occured when I have seriously given the gears a good workout just in this isolated 3rd gear scenario. I haven't got the ability to change it to V1. All I got is V2 or stock standard which really sucks after experiencing the power of APR V2.
So anyway bottom line is I should be getting a SEAT intake and Forge TIP for starters? Would the stock diverter valve have anything to do with it do you think? Could that be failing and its "leaking" boost under these conditions? If this is "surge" isn't that what a diverter valve is designed to prevent?
Shaneth if you are reading this - you got my pm & I am waiting patiently.

                Hey Mozzy,

Word of warning about the Forge TIP...no one in Perth will install it.....
unless you want to try y'self.
Mine still sitting in by boot.

Bit hesitant to try it myself.....sorry if off topic.
PS I have V2 and have not had this surge problem.

Did Brian (Quattro's) not do it for you in the end? When I took my car in for its service & APR tune we talked about it and he basically said he can install them but it's the warranty issues that bother him. He pretty much indicated that he would install them at our own risk. Well thats what he told me. Hmm maye you should ask him again? or did you already?

Back on topic - The more I think about it the more I am thinking its the stock bosch diverter valve failing. Thoughts anyone?

Mate I was not aware of this development. I'll check with Brian on Monday.

I have a GTI Polo, APR v2, APR downpipe and cat, SEAT intake, BMC filter, APR diverter valve

If I put the boot in in first and second gear the car is fine... Under moderate acceleration the car is fine but I have noticed that in 3rd gear...

At about 70km/h flat out throttle to redline the car is all over the place.

It sort of starts revving, seems like it hits a little flat spot then feels like it pulls again, then it backs out, then it comes on again. its not on off but you can just feel the power come on and off... ite really weird..

Can someone go wide open throttle in 3rd gear from about 70km/h and let me know if its smooth or its a little rubbery?

Ill try it tomorrow with the stock tune and see how it behaves..
HAHAHHAHA My car do the exactly same thing!!! I almost fix it with the N75Race! It is much more smooth now.

But the problem still there! I'm testing a FESTO connection at the exit of the N75 trying to keep it steady.

Do you see the Roller Coaster at my dyno chart!? That is my problem!!

Ah ha the plot thickens.. So I see you didn't list a TIP upgrade? I wonder if it is indeed a collapsing TIP then?

And yes Duncan have another chat with Brian to clariy the situation. Yeah he pretty much said he'll install & source pretty much anything if you want to take the risk or words to that effect.

No, my TIP still stock, however I think it is not the problem... it is restrictive, but I think it won’t collapse.
The difference is brutal between the Eaton N75 to the ECS N75… ECS N75 almost solves the problem, and the issue happens in the middle RPM range, between 3000 and 4000rpm, above that everything come to normal.

Anyway I intend to upgrade my TIP, let’s see what happens.

Yeah nothing wrong with them, its just that we struggle to find someone in Perth prepared to install them....they all seem to think it won't fit etc,etc...but the problem may be solved now.
