Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • 9N3 Polo GTI Changing 5th Gear Set

Hey guys, wanting to change the 5th gear set in my 08' Polo GTI Cup Edition, cruising on the motorway at 100ks doing between 2500-3000rpm isn't really doing me any favor's re fuel consumption.

    My gearbox code is 02R and I've found this gear set for longer 5th gear: Darkside Developments - 5 Speed 02J, 02A ,02B, 02C & 02Z - .592, .622, .658 and .717 5th Gear Sets (Aftermarket)

I've read somewhere the 02R is pretty much the same as 02J, is anyone able to confirm this and if that gear set will work with my gearbox?

interesting, did the Cup have a different 5th and/or final drive to the "boring" GTI?

my GTI with revotech "stage 1" tune and the stock 16" wheels/stock tyre size yields >600km/tank at 110km/h on the highway

What's the code for the Cup gearbox? Stock GTI is HWY or JDB from memory.

      02A 311 158 AM
      change gear
      5-speed
      31/38
      1
      HWY,JDB,JYF

I think this is 5th gear, 31/38. Note the part number of the gearset starts 02A. Most parts inside the 02R are the same. Just the casing changes inthe various designations from what I can see

I don't think so but 2500rpm at 100 in 5th gear seems a bit short. It has the stock 17" wheels the cup came with.

        JDB is the code.

02A 311 158 AM seems to be .700 ratio which would probably still be too short, that .592 I linked in the original post would end up about 130k at 2500ish rpm if I remember correctly and would be a sweet cruising rpm at 100.

That aftermarket gear set is I linked its pretty cheap at 150 pounds or around $300nzd just hope it fits.
