  • SEAT intake mod is a must..

    Hi,

I bought the Seat Intake mod from Dub addictions..

Received it promptly, thanks Tim at Dub addictions..

Anyhow, I was feeling a little ill and put my name down at the doctor.. Whilst waiting, I decided to go outside and fit up the SEAT intake. It was so easy to fit and looks exactly as stock, which I really like.. I seriously fitted it whilst waiting for the doctor and feeling very groggy so its just so easy to fit.. It just fit perfectly.

On the road, the car feels a little more zippy.. It really does..

Im just so surprised VW wouldnt fit that intake as a stock part...

With a Forge TIP and K&N/BMC it really allows a chipped GTI to pull cleanly to 6800rmin without that drop of power around 5500rmin that stock intakes have.

It does not really add that much more power, it just ensures you have the same power over a broader rev range.

With the TIP and K&N its worth the $500 bucks total spend for a totally different driving experience.

They used to be $79 when the Polo first came out. SEAT realised everyone was buying them so they jacked up the price to something ridiculous.

they must be loving the profit margings because there are a lot of people opting for this upgrade. there are a lot of people asking why they don't use this intake from factory, well, this could be one of the reasons why. of course they could, but when you can sell them for ~$170 a pop aftermarket, why put it on in the factory.

however would it not work out cheaper for VAG manufacturing the one part. i say all cars that use that length intake pipe should be upgraded to the SEAT size.

                    hmmm.
It really wouldnt be that hard to make up something similar for a fraction of the cost. The good thing about the SEAT intake is that it looks OEM.

the SEAT intake has been discussed in other threads here and it was said that it will not really become a useful mod until you have some serious mods like an FMIC, TIP and full exhaust (and obviously being chipped). and this level of modification, the car will NEED a larger intake system to allow for the uprated air flow. until then, the stocko intake pipe is more than enough for basic mods like chip and filter or chip and TIP.

Can you show me these discussions as I can't remember them.

I think Sharkie hit the nail on the head. Although it may not do anything to peak power or in the lower rev range above 5500rpm is where I notice it most. Definitly has freed it up. And then even more so with TIP and filter.

Fusion have you driven the same polo with stock intake for 10000km and then seat intake for 20000km to back up your claims that it's all psycological.

i could go searching but typing in 'Polo GTI SEAT intake', i'm sure i'll get a bucket load of results. the discussions were probably a good 9 months ago when i was in the early stages of having my car and i was looking at the SEAT intake. the reason i posted is the reason why i haven't bought one....yet!

i have no doubts it opens up the system (thats pretty damn obvious, its a larger pipe ), but i don't believe it does anything to REALLY benefit the car until it is needed. for the high price of $165 (or however much they are now, they were $199), i'd be looking at spending that money elsewhere. each to thier own i suppose.
