Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Polo AXR 1.9TDI - Coolant leak from temp sensor

    Hey guys,

Recently bought myself a little 1.9TDI polo. Super tidy thing, but as soon as I drove it for the first time the coolant warning light came on - after investigation, whatever muppet worked on the car previously put the temp sensor o-ring on the wrong side of the copper section. As a result, coolant was just dripping from the temp sensor.

Managed to take it out, put the o-ring on correctly and reinstall, but lost a heap of coolant in the process.

With that said, what do you guys recommend I use just to top up with coolant until I get the full tbelt/water pump done (it is due anyway)?

Further to that, are there any recommended euro specialised mobile mechanics in the North Brisbane area? Simply because I may just leave it as is and get someone to do the job properly, without worrying about putting in the wrong coolant until I can book in with a mechanic.

    Cheers,

    Josh

Not exactly north Brisbane, but Alba European always gets recommended in Brisbane. They are in Moorooka. Might be worth the drive to get a good mechanic: Log in to Facebook

As for your coolant, I would just top it up for now and check it a few times over the next week or two. Then get it flushed properly once you book it in to get the water pump and timing belt done.

Just get some premixed G12 or higher grade coolant to top up your reservoir. Otherwise you need to buy RO or distilled water to dilute the concentrate.

Do not use any other coolant if you're going to be running for any meaningful period to avoid corrosion.
