The 6 speed from the new MK5 GTI won't fit ... different bell housings etc ... the MK4 models with it was standard fitment, so if you could get your hands on one should be a straight fit to the Polo.

I'll be looking at whats out there to see how much it will cost. Will likely have to be imported, so won't be cheap .....

Why do you need 6 speeds with a motor that has such high torque from 2500 rpm up?

If you really want to experience how aggravating this can be, test drive a manual Golf GT TDI

From reading a few things on seat forums no one has been able to bolt a 6 speed up to an Ibiza mk4 yet.
Now i do know that the mk4 gti box and the polo may be diferent in the way the linkage works.
Some one might be able to help with that one.
The Mk4 golf that came with the 6 speed must have been an o2m or an 02y?
          is this right?
Quick add is the polo TDI

I find the power comes on at ~2000rpm. On the highway you're sitting at 2800rpm or so.... 800rpm of extra fuel consumption for cruising?

            6 speed would be nice.

Many 6-speed boxes have shorter gearing, which can be a disadvantage in performance cars. Many S3 owners complain that they have to change gears well before 60kmh in 1st and 100kmh in 2nd, but 5-speed A3 turbos, quattros etc don't have this problem bc of the longer gearing. ...notice how easy our Pogs do 60 in 1st and 100 in 2nd

I'm happy with my gearbox... except for some strange whirring noises when rolling in 4th from anywhere between 40 and 48km/h... still haven't figured out what's causing that... or why i hear rattles whenever the car is in neutral. Thinking of taking it back to the dealer to get it looked at...

But yeah, the only thing that annoys me is having the engine run at 2800rpm just to sit on 100.

yeah highway cruising, an extra gear would be nice i reckon.... besides that the stock 5sp is great. so far my car has done 1,500km and no problem with the gearbox

For a small hot hatch the Polo GTi has fairly tall gearing in top gear.

I found that gearing quite good on the higher speed sections of my trip from Darwin to Townsville. Bar the strong head winds I got, the fuel consumption I got out of 5th gear with the speed I was travelling was pretty good.

For the price of importing a 6 speed gearbox and having it fitted with the labour cost involved and possible modifcation of the bell housing I'd rather rebuild my 5 speed and whack in a peloquin LSD.

                            That's what I did.

The box was a bit of a mess but it never crunched once. The Polo's that have the gearbox replacement under warranty must be seriously messed up.
