  • 6 speed gearbox anyone ?

The Polo TDI Sport (overseas - 96kw, 310NM) runs a 6 speed manual gearbox as standard .....

The MK4 Golf GTI (overseas - limited 132kw editions) ran 6 speed manual gearboxes ....

SO .... how difficult would it be to fit this gearbox to our Polo GTI's ??????

Would be stronger ... quicker and get rid of any of those gearbox issues some people have been having ...

Yeah I wish we got 6-speed MKIVs < R32. The anniversary MKIV GTIs are awesome.

ha ha ha yeah I reckon that's fair compensation for enduring gearboxes that crunch.. synthetic gearbox oil - idiots !!! ..and while I'm whinging, VW should have put a 6-speed in the Polo GTI in the first place - tight ar*es!

I was under the impression that 6 speed manuals were weaker then 5 speeds?

          *when power is added*

I know in the S15 200SX that the 6 speed was weak. With the new XR series Fords the 6 speed is much stronger than the 5 speed was. I'd assume that the Euro gearboxes would be the same (Highly doubt that an Aussie company would be more advanced re gearbox strength than a Euro company).

So out of curiosity how much is a 6pd box worth anyhow?

The 6-speed in the Ford is German made I believe they're used in BMWs and some Jags.

I knew the auto was german but is the manual german also?

What about a transmission from a Bora4mo? I'm pretty sure the manual fords use the 6 speed tremec box. i.e. the same one as the holdens just with different ratios and final drives...

Oh and the V8 vantage uses a variant of that box as well...

Oh duh my bad, I automatically relate the 6-speed to the German auto! Just to clear it up, the new manual used in the FG Falcon is a US made Tremec TR6060 (good for 800Nm of torque and used in Corvette ZR1, Vipers etc) whilst previous 6-speeds were the Borg Warner/Tremec T56 used in cars such as the VE, Mustang, Aston Martins etc. The TR6060 is an improved and much stronger version of the T56.

But this is going off topic. What are the 6-speed boxes used in the Golfs and how many Nm are they good for?

Will APR chip / Revo will cope with new gearbox?

Probably will need a complete re-map.
                        06 Polo GTI - REVO Stage 2 = 140kw @ wheels.
06 Golf GTI - Bluefin Stage 1 blacked out with ED30 theme, leather, xenon, etc.

I reckon you could get one of the Golf TDI or GTI 6 speeders into a polo.
The box will cost you a couple of grand second hand I reckon cos there are not many out there. I dont reckon your chip would need a remap. Plus Diesel boxes are stronger than petrol ones

Aren't the maps done off the rev range? So it should matter what gear ratios you have?

Wouldn't the diesel boxes be a completely different ratio to the petrol since deisels don't rev as high?
