our alarm is pretty good IMO. i find it really sensitive. i reckon if it wasn't for the quality of the alarm the car would have been in a much worse state and i doubt i would still own the valuables that were left in there.

Bad luck, Rhys. When they repair it, I'm sure they'll do everything they can to get all the loose glass out of the door. I'd say they'd be 'kids' that did it rather than (pro) crims ... best to get it fixed and put it behind you. I know how violated you feel though ... I've had several cars vandalised over the years and it always leaves a nasty after-taste (think it's called 'the wish for retribution') but it's best to just move on.
Bad luck, Mate.

Sorry to see that mate! It's not always how much damage but that your space has been invaded! Absolutely cowardice on the culprits! Hope you get everything sorted out.sigpic

cheers for the comments guys, i really appreciate it. i spoke to my insurance co and apparently my policy does not cover the "one free windscreen per year". i asked why not and the lady said that i never chose that extra option. i argued with her that i was never told about it when i signed, that most other companies offer it free and that i would have been more than happy to pay the extra $40 per year for it. her reply was, "well i can add it on there now for next time something like this happens". anyways, she informed me that my excess is $350 but advised me to look to get it done somewhere for under that amount and not to make a claim and i would most likely save some money. i just love it how some idiot smashes my window and i have to pay for it!

UPDATE - have got some quotes from some respectable windscreen companies in the area. seems as though it will cost approx. $420 - $480 for the windscreen and tint to be replaced. looks as though i will be paying my $350 excess and getting it done that way.
The bloke at Instant Windscreens said that he would prefer not to use aftermarket glass on a VW and would definitely opt for the genuine piece from VW.
The front desk lady at O'Briens Glass don't believe that VW still make glass for the Polo GTI and that one company makes windscreens for every car available, and every windscreen company on the Gold Coast gets their templated glass from them.
I think i will go with the guy at Instant Windscreens! btw, he said that he has 6 cars booked in tomorrow morning with exactly the same damage.
i have a feeling this will take weeks to fix... f*%k s!#t

Just be carefull making a claim for a relatively small amount like this[compared to your excess]
Check with your insurance first and see if your no-claim bonus reduces as a result of this claim.
If it does, you'll probably lose more than the $100 or so over your excess.
Cheers

Just something you may like to check before claiming on insurance...
I had some %&$^stick break into my Suzuki Satan Spawn by smashing a tinted side window.
Quotes from local places were ridiculous, so I contacted the service manager (who I knew really well as the car was such a lemon, he had it longer than I did... but I digress) and he got me the glass and rubber surround through spares, and recommended a glass fitment place. It was less than half the cheapest quote I had, and way under my insurance excess.
So, it may be worth a call to your dub parts place and seeing how much it will cost direct.
Cheers!
PogoAmy.

That sucks mate. I have a good rant containing much swearing and references of where to insert things and what these people are but will leave off on this.
There is a bright side to this mate and that's that they didn't jack your car up and take the wheels and/or key the crap out of the car or set the thing on fire. Gotta look on the positive side right.
Now to go find my blowtorch, bowie knife, pliers and a tin of petrol.sigpic
