Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • On going temp sensor issue

    Please help.
I have been to 3 mechanics and still no result.
Replaced temp sensor and re wired the terminal couple of times
Temp sensor kept shorting out and the instrument cluster kept reading wrong temperature.
Symtoms: drive the car for an hour till the temp gauge reach the normal running temp at 90. Turn the car off and turn it back on again and the temp gauge is at zero and thr car on cold start choking on too much fuel because the engine is already warm.
The obd2 shows a fault code with the sensor so i cleared the code and everything would be back to normal but only for a day or so the symtoms would come back. People recommend me to sell it but the love that i have for this car is too strong..theres gotta be a way any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I had a similar issue for a few years and just had my thermostat replaced and it’s fixed the problem.
