Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Have a search for a gadget called a KVW100 - i'm not sure if it is relevant to 9n3 polos/mk v golfs, or if it is for earlier generations only. If it's compatible it will add remote windows by holding the button rather than turn-and-hold in the lock as you suggest. Otherwise it might be a option you could configure manually with vag-com as part of the central locking controls.

I love finding features like this.

Will save me plenty of time over the summer when windows invariably get left down when parking at the beach. Much easier to just do this than get back in the car and wind em up.
Just because it happened to you, doesn't make it interesting

Only one problem with these devices, and that is they lock you out of the CCM permanently. Not a huge problem if you don't ever plan to program any other features or read codes from it, but it just means you can't ever change anything else like how the central locking or alarm behaves for example.

I don't think VAG-COM has the option either, I've been looking into it and depending on what version of CCM we are running, an old DOS program called VDS-PRO and a cheap serial-OBDII cable may do it.

Hmm not sure about that tbh - my mechanic has been in to the central locking & alarm settings and changed things on the car with his vag-com after I had changed the windows... KVW100 reprograms directly to the ECU bypassing the vag-com controls for the on/off options as far as i know, but it might lock out other stuff. Fuzion would probably be the best person to answer that.

The windows can not be programmed to open from the key-fob buttons, either through vag-com or with KVW100.

It's the CCM (comfort control module) that the KVW100 affects. It's a separate module to the ECU, it takes care of the functions like windows, mirrors, alarm etc. What you can program/reprogram depends on the specific model of CCM.

This thread http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=160960 has heaps of info on it.

Thanks for all your help everyone! It sounds a bit tricky for me if it is even possible, it's no biggie, just thought I'd ask incase it was something easy to change.
