Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

Yep, Mk IV GTI (presumably some of the lower spec'd models too) can close/open the windows by turning the key but not from the remote. *Sunroof too I guess but I don't have one. There is an aftermarket gadget you can get so the windows will open/close from the remote on Mk IVs. Plugs in and remaps some VAG-COM option.

Mk V can close/open windows from the remote by holding the button as a standard feature I believe.

Didn't know you could reprogram the steering weight though!!

My Mk4 2.0L sport would wind the windows down and up with the remote..

our new beetle cabrio has this also. never tried it from the remote but definitely works in the drivers door lock. winds all 4 windows up or down.

Anyone know if the 08 Polo GTI has the "follow me home" function available in VAGCOM?

I can't remember where I read it, but basically, when you get out of your car and lock the doors with the remote, your headlights stay on for 10 seconds.

i thought it was just standard and 'activated' on the GTI. but i have never tried it, so i can't be positive.

The all doors locking and windows up is called Comfort control and is heaps cool if you wire an alarm with a central locking interface to it. This will close all with the blip of a key, used to love the total closure when fitting alarms to VR6s when they were brand new ( yeah showing age again!!) Hey Sharkie this is one way to clse the lot with a key fob mate but not your VW fob unfortunatley

Does anyone know if the open and close feature can be programmed so it can be activated my the keypad? This would make for sense the putting the key in the keyhole!

E.g On a hot day press the keypad before you get to your car so the hot air escapes before you get in.
