Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • 2012 6R CBZB Engine build date, relation to timing chain.

I have read that earlier model CBZ engines had stretched timing chains issue which were resolved through 2 production changes on the engine,

    - 1 on 18th June 2011 where they revised the chain and guard
    - and on 7th November 2011. When they rolled out new version of the engine. (Part No. 03F 103 101 B)

Could anyone advise where my CBZB engine falls under in terms of the production update? I am guessing (through VIN number) that the car itself has been put together on 28th Nov 2011 but not sure if the engine has the final update applied to it.

On paper, my engine number is CBZ* 544645 M. So I guess it had the mid 2011 update applied.
But how would I know if the engine is post Nov 2011?

Thanks in advance on any advice.

    Regards,

    Daniel

You need to physically inspect the chain tensioner, to determine which one it is.
