Second-hand goods credits under GST: when are they available? | Clayton Utz

    The second-hand goods credit

This is the problem that the second-hand goods credit was intended to solve. It was intended to give the second-hand goods dealer a hypothetical input tax credit equal to 1/11th of the sale price (or trade in value) of the car sold to the dealer by the individual. Thus, the net tax collected on the sale by the second-hand dealer would only be 1/11th of the dealer's margin (ie. 1/11 x (Sale Proceeds – Trade in value).

The ultimate sale of the goods is critical. The second-hand goods credit can only be claimed when the goods are sold and is limited to the lesser of 1/11th of the trade in value or 1/11th of the sale proceeds.

Thanks for that, I learnt something new today.

Could someone please clarify what the two OPTIONS on the GTI entail? Went for a test drive and noticed some of the Polo GTI don't have the RVC? I thought this was standard on the GTI? Tried trawling the VW website to no avail.

        I thought it was:

        DA pack
        Sat Nav
        OPS Parking sensors

        Lux pack
Leather seats (are they still sports seats?? or comfortline seats?)
        Sunroof
        LED headlights

So presumably you can tell DA pack - by the "NAV" button in the dash, top right of the radio (the non-DA have the "SETUP" button there)
and the LUX pack - by sunroof.

Yep, seats are not as well bolstered but it dosen't mean it's not comfortable or suitable, you'll just have to try them out.

The question is, are the LED headlights worth $3300 especially if you plan to keep the car for a long time? I personally have had enough with halogen but I don't mind having a sunroof but I'm not sold on the alcantara seats so it's a tough choice.

The Sunroof option also means the roof will be a few centimetres lower than normal. So not so good if your really tall or need to wear a helmet when on track, for everone else it should be fine unless you feel claustrophobic.

Other notable quirks; CD is hard to access, back windows don't wind all the way down, I found the mirrors a little small, speedometer numbering could be better, RVC guidlines are static with no dynamic lines overlayed, no boot or petrol cap release in car, no adaptive cruise control (is offered as an option in the 81TSI), indicator is on the left, suspension is at times bouncy etc. To be fair there are alot of good qualities about the car that make it well worth considering also some of those quirks are minor.

                Hey guys,

I'm looking at buying a new Polo GTI in the Sydney area in the next few weeks and wanted to see what people think i should be paying for a white manual with no options. I have been to North Shore VW and they wanted $32, 900 and Hornsby was $31,800. Seems dealers vary a lot. I thought the dealer delivery prices seemed really expensive!! North Shore was $3495!!!

Any advice from anyone on prices or dealers? Is it unrealistic to think I could get one for less than 30k with some negotiating?

                Thanks for the help!

I found the mirrors a little small,
no boot or petrol cap release in car,
indicator is on the left, .
My wife has LED headlights in her Honda - they are fantastic.

The back windows in most cars don't wind all the way down

It's supposed to be a sporty car - hence small mirrors. Have you ever driven an XC Falcon GT (or similar from the 70s). Unbelievably small mirrors. You get used to it but mirror setup becomes more important.

Why would you need boot / petrol cap release in the car? Press the door unlock button & the petrol cap opens with a push & the boot has a button near the number plate lights... or have all these features been deleted?

Left indicator is standard for all VW group cars (and many other Euros). Why would they change it? I actually prefer it - right hand on the steering wheel at all times; left hand for gearchanges & indicators.

North Shore VW is seriously price gouging on the GTI.
$3495 for dealer del. is bulls##t.Tell them to take a hike

$3500 is the starting price for PD

If you are a member of a professional association that is in VWs affiliate programme then that price is halved & they pull about 5% off the price without having to haggle.

For a popular new model I'd aim for 8% off RRP and $1500-$1900 for the car wash. If you have a trade-in then all the discounts mean nothing as they will simply vary the TI up & down with the discount.

Sounds good to me ... that's the price range they want for DEMOs with 1500km on them here around Melb.... is this with trade in, are you being ripped there?

Thats to much, every dollar that you spend over 29000 (for a manual with no extras - as it is) is plus for them.

Yeh but this one is +DA and +metallic paint I believe..... so you mean 29k drive away? Never seen it that low ... but i guess that's what this thread is for

In the big picture if you really like the car $1k isn't going to make much difference in the long run - just don't get a loan
