Many moons ago, I think quality rubber and a quality wettable glass coating in the washer bottle made a difference. Used to use Trico washer additive. That was before my brother put me on to RainX. I still think quality rubber helps. VW charges insane prices for wiper blades. Now using Trico TTR-610 rubbers to replace the OEM rubbers in the original aero blade holders.

There must be something on the windscreen causing the wipers to skip/shudder.
Agreed with this! I've had trouble with hard water stains almost since new, which is causing the wipers to operate loudly and smear. Glass polish is helping but is such a pain to do by hand, sigh! Any tips for a fine wool or felt-type handdrill attachment possibly? Prefer not to buy a separate buffing machine but maybe that is the only way forward.

Go to Bunnings or Supercheap and you can get 0000 grade steel wool which will not scratch your glass.

Ive done windcreens with wiper arm 'scracthes' with Cerum Oxide and a drill attachment that wasnt expensive, its like a lump of very hard felt:

Polishing out Glass Scratches with Cerium Oxide : Aussie Sapphire, Specialists in Lapidary Supply

Worked really well, and you shouldnt need much work on a newish screen like on a 6R.

Quite why these wipers are such trouble is beyond me. The ones on my 04 Audi A3 lasted years and never juddered, these were terrible from about 6months old... technology is meant to improve, not go backwards, sigh...

Ive just cleaned my screen with an IPA wipe that came with some PIAA wipers I bought for a WRX a few years back, even after cleaning the screen this wipe picked up quite a lot of dirt, so maybe this will help. we'll see.

Dealer mentioned problems of wiper shuddering reported by Polo 6C owners. Owner's manual talks about not letting any wax get on the windscreen. Is wax the cause of the problem?? If so more likely for auto car wash users than hand washers??

Good news... ish... The PIAA cleaner has done the job and my wipers are judder free now, so it was dirt and potentially wax from car wash that probably led to the judder... the not so great news is that the cleaner seems to be for sale UK only:

              PIAA VISION PRODUCTS

but perhaps any decent cleaner would do?

ADDED: Ive also been driving in the rain a bit (havent we all recently?!) and ive noticed that water beads and runs off the screen with speed, so Im thinking the PIAA wipe also had some silicone in it. This makes me wonder if rain-X would be something local we could try. Its what I will try when this wears off.

Have to also add... its so nice to be judder free! Different car....
