Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

  • Wiper shuddering even in the rain

    Hi all
As the title suggests, the driver side wiper blade shudders even when it is raining. A change of blade doesn't help, should I get the wiper arm pressure checked or could I be looking at a faulty wiper arm?

It could be something on the windscreen itself....

Clean your wiper blades thoroughly or replace them, if that doesn't work, you can get windscreen polish it could be a film of crap on it that windex wont remove

The passenger side doesn't do it, which makes me think it might be the driver's side wiper arm.

Same as mine The blade doesnt swap direction for some reason it comes up with the blade surface leading instead of trailing if you get what I mean and so it shudders

$5 polish, try it on your windscreen, usually fixes this issue.

Shouldn't have to polish the windscreen to make the wiper blades work correctly, surely?

Could also be an arm pressure issue, it might be pressed too hard against the glass so the blade doesn't flip over.

I contacted the dealership from where I purchased the car for advice, explained the issue and they responded that they can definitely check the wiper arm pressure. Good to know either way if the arm is bent or not, as I said it is only happening on the driver's side so I don't see a dirty windscreen being the issue.

Same issue from new. Went back to dealer. They replaced them and all fixed.

Hey guys. After all the messing around of these wipers, I went to spares (VW) and I purchased from what I see a new batch. Has a yellow indicator to let you know when they need changing. Working perfect. Here's some pics of the product code. $60.

Well, I got just the two windscreen wiper rubbers for my Caddy, and a wiper blade assembly for my rear window (not the arm), and that was just under $65.

You can get good full blade assembly replacements from Wiper Tech, and they are not badly priced.
