Have a look at the Feb issue of Motor magazine. 1 pg write up on the new GTI. Due Q2 2015

New Polo GTI will be quicker than a Mk6 GTI, and tuned will be quicker as well. That gen 3 1.8TSI will be making over 190kw and 450NM stg 1tuned which will be similar kw to a stg 1tuned Mk6 GTI but 50NM more! and its about a 100kg lighter .....

US figures on that engine (where it is in 132kw stock form) APR 1.8 TSI Generation 3 ECU Upgrade for the MQB Platform
Current: 2023 MY23 T-Roc R Lapiz Blue + Beats Audio + Black pack 2018 MY19 Golf R manual Lapiz Blue + DAP) 2014 Amarok TSI Red (tuned over 200kw + lots of extras) 2013 Up! manual Red 2017 Polo GTI manual Black Previous VWs and some others ...

Hi all, doing a quick read around, it seems 98RON was recommended for the previous Polo GTI, does anyone know whether this new engine is supposed to use 98RON as well?

mad if you don't - will give better than stock power & better fuel economy. Worth it for the extra $2 a week it will cost.

If actual supply of 98ron is the issue then yes, it will run on 95ron without issue.

Thanks, yeah it's more the availability of 98RON - very few service stations up here sell it.

This will be a very newbie question to ask, but here I go, will this EA888 engine have such high oil consumption?. Ive been doing some research to find that this was a reoccurring event in some past models of both polo and golf variants

EA888 has been available since ~2007. I have the 1.8tsi one in my Octavia and they have also been in A4 Audi, Passat & Skoda Superb. The 2.0L version has been in the Octavia vRS & MK6 Golf GTI.

I've done 150,000km inc 100,000km with a tune and it's had a HPFP, N75 valve & a water pump fail. I don't think that's terrible. Oil usage is about 100-200ml (half-way down the cross-hatch on the dipstick) every 7500km. I'd consider that to be minimal in any car.

I reckon the EA888 Polo will be a corker

The only issue the facelifted GTi will have is dud DQ200 7 speed dry clutch box. However VWAG could save their arses if they offer an extended 5 year factory warranty.

Finally it will have a manual again! DSG will still be a dud but the manual will be awesome .....

Just looked at Top Gears review of the new Polo and they have claimed a 5.6sec 0-100kph time, which, is true is a big jump from the previous model comparing stock forms. Would love to see the stage 1 tune figures, traction may start to become an issue for the 0-100 times but in the scheme of things, with a stage 1 tune, it wont be that far off the MK7 Golf R's stock claimed 0-100 times! (claimed 4.9 with DSG, 5.3 in manual)

I spoke to one of the dealers at the Essendon Fields Volkswagen and next week they have particular training involved with learning how to sell the product and a test drive etc. Hopefully it isn't too much longer ...

What would be worth $30k these days other than this little beautiful slice of heaven? I'm all up for suggestions.

The real year of the hatch back and vehicle price wars will begin next year until 2020 as the big manufacturers are stepping up their game (Ford, Renault, Kia, Hyundai, Toyota, Nissan etc).
