No doubt some people have had issues but there are also lots of happy owners. Most people will come on to complain or sort out their problems rather than report that everything is good.

Maybe the Polo guys need to start up a new thread (assuming it isn't already buried somewhere I've missed it) like the Mk6 Golfers did: http://www.vwwatercooled.com/forums/...ead-69908.html

I've done just under 40k in my TSi and couldn't be happier with it. Agree with others on here: Classy, good looking, plenty of get up and go when you need it, and I'm averaging 5.7l/100km. Expensive servicing the only downside.

77TSI Manual with 27,000km now no issues apart from one minor trim rattle. Never displayed a warning light, never failed to start and never broken down.

Hmmm.... lots of positive reports about the 6R (which is good given that I just purchased one). It's probably a case of the squeeky wheel getting the most oil. The tendancy is that those with problems will usually be the most vocal (understandably). This tends to give a distorted picture of the build quality of the car. The replies here (in general) provide a more balanced view - IMO.
Please don't PM to ask questions about coding, or vehicle repairs. The better place to deal with these matters is in the forum proper. That way you get the benefit of the wider expertise of other forum members! Thank you.

MY13.5 77TSI Polo with Sports pack - Manual Transmission - 26,000+ km so far

                  What's bad?
                  - Has an annoying heat wrap/cat converter rattle above the exhaust which nobody will fix because "nothing is wrong"
                  - Bluetoothy thingo, i've fixed this by removing it and changing the head unit
                  - Drivers door lock failed and kept locking me out - fixed
                  - Dealer service competency... I'm not even going to go there

                  What's good?
Overall apart from the above, I really can't fault the drive-ability of this magnificent piece of German engineering. The torquey 1.2lt 4 cylinder is definitely a strong performer and is very reliable.

I enjoy how comfortable the car is on long drives and how I can whip it around tight bends with ease.

                  Just keep in mind that your new VW does come with new car warranty and by law they are required to fix any failing parts. Just keep your eyes and ears peeled for the early warning signs of the 77tsi characteristics and get it fixed as early as possible if presented, these niggleys include;
                  - Timing chain rattle (i've never had this issue)
                  - Fuel line/turbo wastegate rattle (had my fuel line rattle fixed)
                  - DSG issues such as vibrations, clutch slipping and false neutrals (If fitted with DSG) DSG's are amazing gearboxes, when they are working. When they are not, it is nothing short of a nightmare and an empty bank account.

I've done 19,500Kms on my Polo 77TSI and it has been an excellent little car. I can't fault it at all! The 77TSI has been exceptionally reliable and I haven't had a single issue with it!

The only issue I have had with the car is the DSG needing the clutches replaced at 15,000Kms however, this was apparently a known issue with DSG's manufactured in 2012. Since the clutches have been replaced, the car has been flawless.

For those having a sour experience with dealership services I'd say maybe try an independent? It won't void your warranty and funnily enough in general the have a reputation of doing a better job as well as being much nicer to deal with. I went to Exoticars for my first service and I couldn't have been happier. I supplied my own oil which they were fine with, it was CHEAP even compared to VW's capped price dealer service, the guys seemed very nice and they work on much higher performance, older and rarer cars than mine so they know how to take care.

                        replace DSG at 64000km
coolant leaking around 30k, replace by warranty.

Even have problems, i love my polo. Good on Fuel (6.1L/100). Feel like driving a bigger car.

As no one has chimed in with TDI responses, here's mine albeit after only 5000 klms; faultless. DSG; awesome. Got the sports pack, handling; great fun. I preferred the torque to the 77tsi and while I was wanting the updated model, had to buy now as the diesel at this stage has been discontinued when the updated model gets here. Shame! Although, if in stop start traffic, the TSI is the go due to the DPF.

                          ENJOY IT!

All I am going to say, having dealt with the 6R since it's inception is that if you are unlucky enough like some of our ex-watercooled brethren to get yourself a lemon, please don't come on here jumping up and down about it because there have been so many people reply saying how good theirs is ("except for burning some oil/except for the fuel line rattle/except for a moody dsg" none I which I would personally claim as an acceptable exception).

Yes overall they're a good car but knowing what I know now, I will answer your question with a question that I posed to another potential owner. If you are asking these kinds of questions after you have ordered the car, then clearly you are worried and having doubts about your purchase. If this is the case, should you really be going through with the purchase?

Are you sure this sound isnt the wastegate actuator rattling? The 1.2T 77TSI engines are reknown for this (same as the 2.0TSI engine in the Mk6 GTI). There is a metal clip you can purchase and fit to the turbo which makes the sound go away. I fitted the clip a few months ago to my Mk6 GTI and the sound has gone. (the rattling sound was very obvious before fitting the clip and drove me mad - sounded like the car was pinging).
