Welcome to the new look VWWatercooled

After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. We are learning together here, so please be patient. If you have questions, please post them here. If you have worked something out and can provide an answer,

From past history you'll typically see the Polo GTI around 6 months after the Polo launch... which is slated for October. So best guess is March 2015 for Oz launch.

Also there was some speculation that the new motor was going to be a 1.6t to keep it in line with WRC specs (yes I know that the previous post states it will be 18.t in SA). I think whichever way it goes the MY15 won't be a twin charger and more than likely there will be both manual and DSG options available.

That will all come down to how much torque the engine makes.

I vaguely remember reading that the DQ200 is good for 250Nm of torque (although I thought the naming convention was DQxxx where xxx = torque limit??

In any case, assuming that the DQ200 is rated at 250Nm any increase from the twincharged engine means it needs a bigger engine.

On the manual side of things the MQ250 is only rated at 250Nm so could have the same problem... but I do wonder if they will raise the torque output of the Polo GTI or not? (do note that the Golf Mk7 went up from 280Nm (300 for the ED35) to 350Nm in the Mk7!).

I'm going to be looking for a replacement to the family Van in June next year so maybe the timelines will alight and a new Manual Polo GTI might make it into that bargain too As I said though, I wonder how much more it will be capable of when tuned .

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

The 132kW tune of the 1.8t is 250Nm, its paired with the DSG7 in the Octavia. It'd be great if it got the DSG6, seems odd for them to up the power and not the torque.

All variants of that engine seem to produce 250Nm.

It will come with a 7 DSG.

There's the A3 quattro 132kW/280nm with DSG6 but yeah thats the highest tune I've seen.

It seems there is a good chance that's artificially limited ... probably for the gearbox...

The 1.4 Twincharger can get over 300Nm without too much trouble I can't imagine the 1.8L would have any problems getting up there.

Is that because Quattro needs the 6DSG?

Now here is an interesting idea

Manual Polo GTI may get more Nms (280?) than the DSG.

Or normal Nm limit will be 250nm will overboost in certain conditions that don't overload DSG7

At a guess if they are limiting to 250Nm they would use the same MQ250 as in the Golf.

Has there been any confirmation on if the Polo R is coming to Aus? There's a few sites saying they may be released in Aus 2015 with the new polos. Speculations are they will have the same 166kw 2.0 Golf engine or potentially the new 188kw A1 Quattro engine.

Sure would be exciting if they do end up being released. I think I speak for a few when I say I'd be very interesting in one
