If our speedo is out by 7% that means our fuel consumption would be out 7% too.

All the numbers reported by the computer are pretty much bang on... Just the displayed speed is over. So odometer, average speed, consumption etc are all good...

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Test it by setting your cruise to 110kmh then rest the computer and see what average speed gets reported

If it has an engine or heartbeat it's going to cost you.

Reminds me of the Prado we used to have before the Polo. It had a 180 litre tank (2x 90 litres) and could make it from Melbourne to Sydney with a little spare. The Polo has a 45 litre tank and can make it from Melbourne to Sydney with around the same amount of fuel left over.

Yes and the point I was making was that in both cases one could say I got from A to B on a tankful.

Sounds impressive till you get the figures doesn't it.

I always fill my car to the next whole L after the cut-off and record the almost true consumption. It is anywhere between the same as the MFD readout and up to 0.4L/100km worse. Usually it is 0.2L/100km worse or around 5% error, just like the speedo.

Generally about 3.5-4.5L per 100. Lately its been towards 4.5-5 due to the constant and endless traffic jams in the mountains

The best I've achieved is 5.6/per 100km coming from Port Macquarie to Sydney, the last and the worst so far has been all Sydney driving which was 11l/per 100km. Generally in the city I average about 10l/per 100km.

                        I've got a MY13 Polo GTI

My polo dsl has a 53+ litre tank. 53 litres is the most I've put in so far. Most km so far on 1 tank is ~1300. My car is way better around town where I have been as low as 3.2 over about 25km. On the highway at 100km/hr the best is about 4.2.

I"m averaging 5.7l/100km, of mainly highway driving, it's very consistent, last 3 tanks was 5.6, the 4 before that 5.4. I mainly only drive it to work, so I'm filling up every 3 wks. Very Happy with it.

Think I got rorted today. Display said I had 20km to empty so wasn't dry at all, yet the pump said I filled 51.04 litres. Never took over 43 litres before and I have driven 20km with the range saying 0.

Polos have a 44 litre tank so yes you did.

Had a similar occurrence at Hervey Bay Filled my 36L reserve tank and it took 41 Complained to attendant Got no sympathy so reported them to authorities.

However I don't hold a lot of faith in fuel gauges as far as accuracy is concerned. One car I had showed 3/4 till it had about 5 L in it Time to get to servo real quick.

Would never drive until tank was showing empty either
