I just updated mine after 37K...not because of below par fuel economy...and when I inspected old plugs they were totally shot.

Hmmmmm, that means a life of around 40,000km..

This car is becoming a pain in the rear....

I'm going to harass the crap out of the service advisor later this month. Like stalk him home or something creepy like that.

OEM spark plugs for the 77TSI are NGK laser iridium. You can only get the spark plugs through the dealer and NGK only licences it out to them. Spark plugs are to be changed at the 60,000 service.

As these spark plugs are side mounted next to the exhaust port they do run hotter than normal centrally positioned plugs which is why they only guarantee them for 60k not the normal 80-100k of most iridium plugs.

Even when I changed mine, wear was good, clean with little soot. So the engine was running well. Like yours my fuel economy sits about 6.9 for most city driving.

            Thanks for that, big help!

6.9 is still pretty high for a vehicle "rated" at 5.5. I'm getting 6.7 at 90km/h for 30 minutes straight with no start stop, so essentially, that's "urban driving".

Only reason why i'm concerned is because now i'm getting 60-80km less a tank, which is for me 3-4 days worth of driving.

I don't think you have a problem. My lifetime (since October 2012) consumption is 6.6 and I see very little traffic and quite a bit of freeway. I just got back from Valla, several hundred kms of freeway and got 6.0. A steady 80kmh seems the ideal but can only do that late at night. Maybe doing 80kmh laps of Lake Eyre could get you 5.5.

So i just had a look at my car after seeing this thread. According to my computer i'm getting between 8.1-9.0L/100km...Not quite sure what's going on here. Has anyone got any clue?

This seems far too high to me.

Pretty normal for a GTI with city driving.

Do you think 98 RON is a waste of money on a 66/77/81TSI? 95 is recommended, the higher the RON is just for higher compression/pressure engines I assume.

According to the sticker on the inside of the fuel door on my 77tsi, 98RON is minimum recommended.

That's odd, the brochure lists 95 RON recommended. http://www.denlo.com.au/sites/defaul...wagen-polo.pdf
The 81TSI fuel cap sticker notes a minimum 95 RON.
