My dealer in Auckland charged the standard NZ$361 for the first service, really just oil and filter. It had to go in for a recall anyway, otherwise I would have done it myself at home. Annoyingly, despite the cost, they used a cheap Mobil 10W-40, a 502.00 oil whose weight is not the first choice for the Polo.
The Castrol brochure supplied with the owner's manual is for Edge Pro, a longlife-type oil (504.00)
Castrol Edge at Supercheap is a 502.00, not longlife but perfectly allowable if you change on a distance (I think 15,000 km) or time basis (1 year.)
Because my car's display indicated a service was required after exactly one year, I'm wondering if there is a VCDS configuration setting (set for this market) for maintenance based on using normal or longlife oil? Also noting, in the service book, there is a tick mark if a longlife oil is used.

It is all 12 months 15,000km between services. Most of us would use a 504/507 oil and the cheapest in Aus is usually Penrite Enviro+ which is a VW approved oil. Anyone who chooses to use a non approved oil is dancing with death should anything go wrong because of it.
Both my cars are under 5 years old and have only done 16000 in the Polo and 26000 in the Passat. Both have had a service each 12 month period so the Passat had its 60000 recently.2021 Kamiq LE 110 , Moon White, BV cameras F & B

Just bought a Demo MY15 Polo GTI with 4900 on the clock. I noticed the Service sticker on Windscreen said next service due at 2000KM But it has done more than that. I called up the Dealership and they said the 2000k service if an inspection service, and That id had been done. There is no Proof tho it has been done, And if it WAS done, wouldnt the 2000k sticker have been removed?
Also do people here abide by the 15000k service intervals, of do yous do oil changes, filter, etc abit earlier? I want to get fresh Oils and Filters ASAP, Whats the best way going about it?

Personally, I'd leave the original oil in there til the first actual service at 15K/12 months. It will have a bearing on a potential excess oil consumption claim down the line.'07 Transporter 1.9 TDI

Being an MY15 with the 1.8T though, oil consumption shouldn't be as big of an issue as the older 1.4TC engines.Alex Aescht

Noting some parts are marked with blue/white paint pens at the factory as part of QA etc.

If you use a a 502 it must also be an APPROVED 502/505 oil and only in a petrol engine.
I was given a Castrol brochure when the car was new and told to use the 504, which the dealer has put in it ever since.
I now supply my own oil as its much cheaper to do so2021 Kamiq LE 110 , Moon White, BV cameras F & B

Au contrare.
There's 'Approved', which means the oil company has paid the fees, sent samples, and actually sought approval from VW.
Then there's 'Meets, or exceeds the requirements of...', which basically places the onus on the oil manufacturer if your DPF or catalytic converter dies from using it.'07 Transporter 1.9 TDI

Simply, as said they havent gone through the Approval process which costs quite a bit of money to get done and so they rely on mugs to think what they say is the same as what they havent said.
Its like buying Printer ink There is genuine ink and "Suitable for" ink. Try getting a warranty claim if you use "Suitable for" instead of genuine anything.2021 Kamiq LE 110 , Moon White, BV cameras F & B
