    Polo GTi Replacement

Yeah, oops! The cruze Sri-v uses the same drivetrain more or less as the Opel Astra gtc sport but in a sedan or hatch with 4 doors. You get a lot for the money in a cruze...

      Yep also SRi-V vote here!

Anth, might even scrape a Focus ST for the price (manual though) or Fiesta ST (probs won't come out in time for you)!

Yep agreed I think the opal looks dead set sexy, saw the ad for it on tv last night and it has great lines. 4 door version with the Cruze is win too. Such a shame +1 can't drive manual

How is that a shame?! that sounds more like 'convenience' to me

Go drive a 'Camira' SRi-V before you put the Polo up for sale, I've driven a couple of different spec manual/auto's petrol/diesels, and my personal opinion is dynamically they are rubbish compared to the Polo, power isn't as strong as it seems on paper(both petrol & diesel), interior quality & design is 10 years behind, stupid keyless start system, clutch pedal and gearbox linkage is not great in a manual, auto calibration is dumb and compromised because of the poor quality of the components used. I will give them one thing though, generally their ride NVH is very good compared to a Polo Gti.

Save yourself the 40% depreciation in 12 months and go find a clean 2007 Accord Euro Luxury or sport manual. They are about the same size as the Camira SRiV, are beautifully engineered, have lots of toys, fantastic gearbox (both 5sp auto or 6 speed manual), crisp steering and 147kw engine that makes decent torque for an NA down low and loves to rev.
(and its a honda so it won't leave you stranded).

If you MUST have a new car wait for the Clio RS in first quarter of next year, that's what I'm going to get if the Polo plays up again this year.
Fiesta ST will probably land 3qtr. this year and will be one to keep an eye on, maybe even the new Peugeot Gti with the Mini Cooper S motor?

Problem is that anything decent as a replacement is manual and gambit specifically requires an auto.... I've chosen my replacement today.

I just came back from a holiday in the UK. the car we'd asked to rent was a BMW 320d sedan but they didn't have one available when we turned up. So they gave us a free upgrade... To a BMW X5 M50D. THIS CAR WAS INCREDIBLE. So, so, so much power. I k ow this and the Polo can't be compared on any level but WOW, was I hooked. I hated giving it back. Plus while hammering it everywhere it still returned about 11.5L/100km which was great.

Now to find the $150k required to buy one over here...
