    Polo GTi Replacement

    Not to be rude, but so what? The dq200 is built by Borg Warner and developed by the same engineering team that developed the dsg in the Bugatti veyron which was developed off the foundation of the Porsche PDK used in the Le Mans winning 962 I think it was. Still doesn't mean it's not a piece of sh*t though!

    My concern is this: if an 1100kg car that produces less than 200nm of torque can fry clutches in a dry clutch dsg, (granted this is primarily software related, so long as the mechatronics unit doesn't die) then what hope does a 147kw, 249nm hot hatch have...

      Alfa Giulietta? Bit bigger, bit slower, but a good looking hatch and has the TCT with either the 2.0 diesel or 1.4 turbo.

      A decent alternative?

        None taken, i just hope they get it right and so what ? tough luck VW. Like I've said if they engineer a mechatronics or clutch units that has a lifespan up to a threshold suitable for the mass market you will always get a proportion of those units failing no matter what the conditions of use.

                Veloster turbo is a pig to drive, like they built a good car and then took all the good stuff except the turbo out of it. Pulsar, have you seen one in the flesh? Barf! And the unless the new SSS is like this I wouldn't bother.

                I think you're stuck Anth because really in the $34,000 drive away price range, you're pretty stuck for anything brand new especially if you want something with some decent performance.

                  You could get a good deal on a run out MKVI GTI...however it would be 39k with no options >.<

                    Well, I didn't say they were particularly good, but they are autos that aren't VW group 1.4 TSI's, perform OK, and are within the budget limit.

                      I've limited it to cars with dual clutch gearboxes only, otherwise the list gets too long (or you need more qualifiers).

                          Polo GTi Replacement

                          Ignoring the 'brand new' requirement - MkV R32

                          (Note: I may be very very biased)
                          2006 MkV 2.0TDI -> 2005 MkV GTI -> 2008 MkV R32 -> 2013 Polo 77TSI + 2016 Mk7 Golf R Wagon

                            Excellent post and list man. Dual clutch is definitely the preferred path.
