to revive an old thread instead of making a new one....

can anyone suggest somewhere in sydney for a rear muffler delete? will be heading up that way soon and though i might try get one done again as i failed at it on my Melbourne trip. and if all else fails i may have to have a look around albury to see what i can find, but would prefer to go somewhere recommended first if i happen to be in the area.

    cheers,
    Ben

Had mine done at Castle Hill Performance Exhaust (saw a few guys here had it done there too), cost me $80 and half an hour. Loving it.

Ok, so ive been use to straight pipes on my old silvia, which idled at 94db. So sound wont be an issue to me. Has anyone actually taken out both mid and rear muffler on their gti 6r? I am have tempted to take the rear muffler out as well..

I came across this video and started drooling..

First of all I can say is all the greenies should die in hell (to any greenies on here please take FULL offence) Seriously if we didn't have to pay more for power (and everything else) now they want to take the fun out of cars.

Also why I wouldn't be concerned with my Polo:

                1. The 1.2 TSI motor without the muffler (keeping a stock pipe size 51mm) doesn't break any laws as it is under 95-98 DB at 6000rpm at 1 metre distance (35 degrees from the tailpipe). Actually the joke is on them because the exhaust IS noisier but only between 2000-2200 rpm where it does step up to about 99 or so DB. But because its outside of their testing criteria it doesn't count. Also they are giving up to 5 DB more than the original but good luck them determining what that is for every stock car out there - what co*ks.

Also would just like to point out a mate changed over his muffler (to a smaller one) on his old 1980's 2.0L Camry and its now louder than my Polo with NO muffler so it just goes to show how quiet these 1.2T motors are.

And I laugh at the fact that they want to ban cars which bellow smoke more than 10 seconds. Guess what, when I gun it from 0-100 onto the freeway or up the mountains I'm bellowing smoke non stop so suck on that and its stock, can't wait for a tune!! hahaha

Should just buy a massive V8 just to burn fuel I think...

U took a factory mandrel bent 2" section out and replaced it with a 2" crush bent section?

One thing that has ALWAYS bewildered me beyond logic is how the hell do the sound levels being blurted out by Harley Davidson bikes tearing through Melbourne CBD get overlooked?

Which groups mainly own HD's?...thought so, the EPA would pee themselves.

We're the soft target...if this gets a leg up, all I can say is the epa better be prepared for law suits...not from consumers...but from manufacturers.

Also on Greenies they can affix their mouth on my exhaust pipe.

I don't really understand your questions but if your wondering what I did, look at the straight part just after the tip and first bend - this is where the massive muffler used to be...

I just got a whole new back section made up so I could return to stock if needs be.

I'm a greenie, i'll happily admit it. It's attitudes like that that give all motoring enthusiasts a bad name, same with opinions against cyclists and cyclists agains motorists. Everyone likes to have an elitist attitude and carries themselves with a sense of entitlement in this country and it really pi*ses me off.

                          • Better put your stock exhaust setup then. That's actually what the greenies want 'cos it's too loud.

Also take the tune off as you are burning more fuel than stock and creating smoke for more than 10 seconds. Actually just buy a Prius that way you can offset the pollution they made making the batteries for it.

Not taking a stab at you Gavs (seriousy dont kill me haha) but just saying you of all people been a greenie, haha your doing the worst job for the environment in comparison to the other greenies.

And what about Harley's, they are so loud you go deaf instantly, why are they not targeted?.It's not about elitists its about fairness and equality. If its all for one side and not the other then its not equality is it? I complain about cyclists because they pay no rego but get my car lanes taken out for bike lanes at my expense, while there is a ongoing pothole epidemic which should be attended to first. Things like this piss me off.

I'm a cyclist, but by no means a Greenie...I thoroughly enjoy my Focus bike and being left a lone whilst riding up north...however when minority groups start picking on my lifestyle on vehicle choice / exhaust setup and possibly soon after attacking CAMS and clubs who have members with race setup vehicles (some up to 50+ years old) then they've clearly picked a fight with the wrong motoring family. (lets face it...the fart recyclers will target us next).

P.S if you're a cyclist and you go through a red light...you're an idiot (random attack for any turd who does it). The road is there to share, get along...If you give way...cyclists will reward patient drivers...I assure you of this (except some morons who think they're cyclists but all they really are, are impersonators without common sense / road fairness).

                              • Is anybody able to cut off part of the outer skin of a stock muffler and post up some photos? I'm very keen to know what the internal flow path is. I want to replace the rear muffler with a straight-through muffler but only if there will be performance gains.
