After much work and little sleep there is a new version of the forums running on more powerful and recent hardware as well as an upgraded software platform.

Things are mostly the same, but some things are a little different. We will be learning together, so please post questions (and answers if you've worked things out) in the help thread.

The new forum software is an upgraded version of what came before, it's mostly the same but also a little different. Hopefully easier to use and more stable than before. • All your MY12.5+ Bluetooth Touch Adaptor Answers

I decided to put this together as a general Q&A so that people don’t have to go through 19+ pages of the Whats with the removable bluetooth screen thingie? thread
Thanks to the guys posting in there, especially readerr0r and dening for pics

It's hopefully complete, but please let me know if I've missed anything.
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“What is this Bluetooth thingy in my MY12.5+ Polo?”

It’s called a Bluetooth Touch Adaptor and works as a sort of relay between your Bluetooth enabled device and the car.

The Attachment that is left on your car when you remove the Bluetooth Touch Adaptor is called a Bury System 9 dock,

    These docks are:
    1. Powered– to recharge your phone
    2. Connected to the car’s GSM/Phone antenna -> this has come up a few times. Details from Bury's website & experience - however you will want to confirm if your phone will benefit from this if you use the Universal cradle.
    3. connected to the car's microphone (the touch adaptor uses it's own microphone when connected)
    4. Not connected to your stereo or MFD other than by bluetooth.

That's right, it does not replace the MDI – and any music played from your phone will be over Bluetooth. MDI still rules for quality,
It can have a phone specific dock attached on top of it. YAY!

It can also have a universal dock attached on top

“My dealer told me that fairies stopped my Bluetooth Touch Adaptor from being delivered, and I will have to wait until after the third Friday after the second blue moon before I will receive it.”
Firstly, if you are yet to receive your car, make sure the dealer documents this for you, and especially have it noted on the delivery report.
Secondly, if you are unhappy with the wait time provided by the dealer, you may want to follow this up with VW customer care directly.

“Hey, this Bluetooth display looks awesome”
Cool, glad you read this far. Feel free to look at other threads now. ☺

“This whole thing looks terrible, can I get my car delivered without it, or remove it from the car altogether.”
The short answer is no to both. The long answer is – if you can remove it, you will have a large, gaping hole in your dash.

“I don’t like the Bluetooth Touch Adaptor, but when I disconnect it, it tells me to reconnect the touch adaptor – what gives?”
To avoid this you need to do one of three things.
    1. Be a good owner and put it back. Also, don’t put things in your ears. That can cause problems too.
    2. Replace it with a genuine VW Dock (see below)
    3. Have your car recoded via VCDS.

    “Recode my VCDS?”
    Yes

“Can you give me more info on that re-coding the VCDS thing?”

    Sure.
One option is to speak to your dealer. You may have a dealer who is helpful and can assist you with this.
Or you may need to find someone locally with a special cable (don’t go buying cheap cable from ebay kiddies) and can help you reprogram your car to ignore the fact the Bluetooth Touch Adaptor isn’t there.

Step 1 – find someone with a cable and VCDS. You may want to start here.
Step 2 – Pair your phone to the MFD. Don’t un-pair the Touch Adaptor. See “pairing a phone” below
Step 3 – Turn your phone off. The VCDS coding will reject if your car is paired at the time
Step 4 – Have someone with VCDS work their magic. See here for general details and here for specifics
Step 5 – Turn your phone back on. It should now pair straight to the MFD with no error messages, and you’re done!

“I re-coded the VCDS, can I still use the Touch Adaptor?”
As long as it's paired to the MFD, yes.

“Music I play on the MDI keeps cutting out when I connect on Bluetooth”
You will need a VCDS recode. See here for details

“I wish there was a dock I could plug my phone into”
There is! Both a Genuine VW one, and aftermarket ones. Your phone might be on the list here! Or maybe the universal one will work (here). Next stop, ebay or google search, or something!

“I want to replace the Bluetooth Touch Adaptor with a genuine VW handy Adaptor for my phone!”
Good news, from reports, there’s nothing you need to do. You should be able to take the Touch Adaptor off, and replace with your phone-specific VW Dock. And you’re done!

“I want to replace the Bluetooth Touch Adaptor with a non-VW dock for my phone! – what do I need to do?”
Step 1 – you need to find yourself a Bury System 9 cradle for your phone. Google and Ebay are great places to find these. There are phone specific cradles - eg: iphone 4/s/5

or universal ones with micro/mini usb:

Step 2 – find someone with a cable and VCDS. You may want to start in this thread (VAG-COM scanning, who can help
Step 3 – Pair your phone to the MFD. Don’t un-pair the Touch Adaptor. See “pairing a phone” below
Step 4 – Turn your phone off. The VCDS coding will reject if your car is paired at the time
Step 5 – Have someone with VCDS work their magic. See here for general details and here for specifics
Step 6 – Turn your phone back on. It should now pair straight to the MFD with no error messages.
Step 7 – Plug in to your cradle, and you’re done!

“My Phone reboots or displays odd behaviour when connecting to Bluetooth”
As far as I'm aware, there are no software updates for the car's Bluetooth. This sort of issue, however, is almost always localised to the actual phone being used, and these sorts of issues have existed with Bluetooth headsets since Nokia first had Bluetooh.
Try pairing directly tot he MFD (detailed above) instead of the adaptor.
If it's still an issue, speak to your phone manufacturer and ensure you have the latest software/firmware, try another phone, try googling your issue.
I'm not google, but in every case I've seen, its the phone, and the Bluetooth in the car works fine with a different phone.

    “My Phone doesn’t have Bluetooth”
    That’s a shame

“Pairing a phone” or “I want to pair a new/other phone to my car, how do I do this?”
You might be lucky and your car could just ask to pair a phone:

“If I was that lucky, I wouldn’t be asking”
    Fair enough.
I haven’t removed the Touch Adaptor
Cool - follow your manual to set up additional phones, or read below.
    I’ve removed the Touch Adaptor
You will need to go to Bluetooth from the phone menu

    Then New User

The MFD will then search for your phone

    I don’t see Bluetooth Settings

This happens sometimes. You will need to reconnect an existing device to the car to access it. This is why having the touch adaptor nearby and still pair is handy.
Step 1 - Connect it to it’s dock.
Step 2 - You should now see Bluetooth in the MDF
Step 3 - Pair your new phone
I don’t see it still, or I don’t have something already paired
You may need to see your dealer on this one

"Can I fit an iPhone in a case to the iPhone docks?"

Other than "sticker" cases, nope. it's too tight a fit.

    "I still have more questions"

Please feel free to message me, or reply to the thread.

“Thank you for your help. Can I reward you with a drink or many?”
I never say no to beer, or Single Malts aged over 21 years.

Thanks for writing the thread, but it's not good practice to blindly copy the entire coding for a module (such as 77 - Telephone) as the coding can be different depending on build date and region. Best to say something like go to Module 77, Bit 4 and tick the 3rd box (description), etc.

Agreed. And it is a clickable option.

          Nice write up though.

It only became available in the long coding helper when VCDS 11.11.4 came out, and the code is the same using it anyway. So I never bothered changing it.

Can't give any specifics since I have a Golf. What I've done is here, however.

Except Ryans link has nothing to do with the bluetooth fitted in MY12.5 Polo's and the code works fine...
Just screen shot the A2DP and cradle diagnostic sections of the helper if its an issue.

                    Bloody cranky!

Booked my GTI in with the dealer to have the Touch Adapter removed via programming. "Sure, we can do that for you" was the reply when I rang to book. Great I think, so I go out and drop $100 on a Bury System 9 universal cradle + another $25 on a micro USB to Lightning adapter for my iPhone 5.

Dropped off at the dealer at 8:30am, get a call 3 hours later saying they couldn't perform the change - VW Technical Service Centre said it wasn't possible. I said it was, so took the iPad down to the dealer and showed the service techie the code required (from a page on this forum ). He said because VW techs in Sydney said it wasn't possible, he wasn't prepared to make any code changes in the event it stuffed something major. Handed me my keys and showed me the door.

I assumed this code change could be performed by the dealer? Can anyone confirm or deny that for me?

Oh, and I have one surplus Bury 9 Universal cradle if anyone's interested

                    Cheers

Keyword there is 'could' sadly. They have the ability to do it, but in this case chose not to due to some hearsay from higher up. There's a variety of people with VCDS cables, just check the VCDS section of the forums for a list of people who can help

Thanks Staz88 & Readerr0r. I've calmed down a little now I may need to take someone up on their offer to recode for me, if I can plan a trip at some stage.

Very frustrating this Touch Adapter stuff!

                          Cheers guys.

You'll get even more frustrated when you see that the coding takes less than 30 secs to do.
But seriously, if you're ever up Sydney way send me a PM.

is it possible to do this on the polo comofrt pack, which doesnt have full MFA.
i have an rcd510 fitted, and would like to code out the stupid girl on the steering wheel,
and use my head unit for bluetooth.
does this give clear quality bluetooth streaming?
