  • The tacho redline is different from my 81 TSI. The thicker part of the red starts at 6500rpm with it. The above pic looks a bit more like the redline mark on our Golf 90 TSI. The 81 TSI marking makes more sense as in both cars the rev cutout is 6500rpm.

Went for these wheels after considering much more expensive options, like you could not find anything with a good 'dish' look in required offsets. Had them on nearly 2 months and no problems at all. Fronts are ideal offset if you don't want rubbing, backs you could certainly go to 35 or use 10mm spacers maybe? 35mm offset at front and you will definitely get rubbing.
Seems like my current wheels didn't work out due to front brake clearance which I didn't account for so now I am back to the same wheel as you which I plan to order this week. Looks like they have them in gloss black now so I am going to get that finish as I have painted all the trim on mine gloss black.

Question, do you have after market suspension and how much space do you have between back of wheel and strut on those? Mate runs 8" +35 on the front with no issues but these are 8.25 and apparently I only have around "a finger" at most on the stock detroits. Was just worried about the wider rim and the backspace but it's possible that the extra width of the rim is in front of the hub, not the rear and will be fine. If you are running +38 without any hit then I guess anything with below that is going to clear fine?

Just need to drop it a bit at the front.

        Excellent job by Wheelworx

Hey dude, also did you get the black wheel lugs from wheelworx and extended or normal size? I just realized I am going to need to swap mine or it's going to look awful.

I do have KW coilovers but I reckon the physical external dimensions of the strut assembly will be the same as standard.

You are right the back of the front wheel is horribly close to this strut assembly, can't get my hand in through the wheel past the brake discs to feel and car is too low to get under it, maybe a finger. Back wheel clearance is almost 2 fingers. Photos are of front.

Forum member 'Raphii' has XXR530s fitted which are 8.25s with 35 offset with Eibach springs I think, think he has no clearance issues - you could message him.

I am fairly confident you will be OK with the same wheels as me on std struts etc or coilovers.

Yep you definitely need new wheel lugs, they should be supplied with the wheels. By the way I reckon the std Hustler caps look terrible and I can give you some tips on making up your own from plastic 'blanks' - message me with your email address if you are interested.

You my friend, are a ****ing champion. Looks back backspace clearance should be fine. I have H&R superlows which seem to be basically same as kw1. When the suspension was put on I asked the dude how much clearance there was with the stock detroits and he said about 3mm hahaha. I was just hoping that having another 10/11mm on offset would create enough clearance but wasn't sure. I do not want spacers as 5mm is not wheel-centric and will vibrate for sure. I will definitely hit Raphii up. Great.

Yeah I planned on having a look around about the cap issue as I suspected they would not be good. Might use silver/black VW centers if possible as goes with my theme. I hope I get lugs but I somehow doubt it as I am going through ozzy tyres, not wheelworx, and it looks like they sell kits. How much did you pay for your rims through wheelworx? These are seemingly quite cheap at ozzy, around 1000-1100. I will flick you my email in pm.

                • $1200 with std tyres re-fitted and with black lugs. Should be cheaper in Eastern states because that's where the distributor/s are.

Got your email and will put some info. together for you.

Great price with lugs. Maybe I will hit up wheelworx as well. Going through ozzy because they had the gloss black available with free shipping to west coast and they also said they would drill them to 5x100 blank for me. Emailed them again earlier, see what they come back with.

                    Awesome cheers

                    • Recently took a road trip and grabbed a few quick snaps between the rain. Only had about 10 minutes to capture these and believe it or not the car is filthy and covered in rain. Rims were covered in dust so don't have that nice shine but still turned out fairly well for now.

My Polo GTI on H&R super lows, dropped 70mm at the back, 50mm at the front. May have to bring the back up a little once the new rims go on in the next few weeks. Panoramic roof colour matched to the back and all plastics sanded, painted and glossed.

Hey dude, wheels arrived, sorting out caps this week. Ordered H&R triple C adjuster bolts to camber the rears in for +25 so I can retain ride height haha. Were the lugs you received extended or normal length? I think standard is about 28/29mm.

Given the +25 rear I suspect I am going to need some for at least the rear if not both but I am assuming you have to be careful with getting them too long or they stick out of the rim too far. As in they will only screw in so much. Thoughts?

So the only way I could answer you was to take one out and compare, you owe me a beer

Overall length the same, thread length shorter but the seat is the only real important difference. Installer told me I could not use the VW lock lug. I expect you will need the same bolts front and rear, can't see what difference wheel offset will make to bolt length?

hahaha my man, **** you didn't have to do that. I do owe you a beer. I was going to try a stock lug this morning but in seeing this image I have now noticed the difference in seat which I might not have considered earlier when ordering bolts online so thank you. That could have been annoying to say the least.

The offset matters because it can affect the contact space if the way they are achieving the offset is by shaving which I am fairly certain they are. To get +35/+25 they order plus +25 and shave 10mm more off the back of the front two in order to achieve the +35 offset. Although thinking abotu it again if anything it would mean the +35mm should have an additional 10mm of thread in this scenario so I will have to go try them both this morning. =]

No worries, just looking forward to seeing the end result, particularly with the rears.

Tried the +35 on today with 215/40, no rubbing at the front. Soon as my camber bolts are here next week I will do them all, back should be easy, just going to need to tilt it in a few degrees. I think I could even go lower at the front, thinking about modified drop links.
