My phone (usually) pairs with the RCD510 and will commence streaming right away sometimes I may have to hit un-pause on the RCD510. Sometimes my touch adapter will fight and pair with the RCD510 (yes, seriously dumb!) and other times the audio will stream but wont show track names etc. Somewhat annoying, but it is rare that this will happen.... really need to code out the POS touch adapter!
thanks for sharing, so it is the rcd310 system!

when upgrading to the rcd510, was the quality good only when you connect to VW PHONE, or also via touch adapter?

also, what can the steering wheel controllers do once connected? volume only?

    • I have a 77tsi with the rcd310. When the car is turned on, there is two BT options; VW Phone and Touch adapter. I have paired my 4S to the vw phone option and not the touch adapter. I will wait for BT to connect or connect manually if it takes to long, then start playing music. Quality seems fine, but it could just be me. Can answer calls using buttons on steering wheel just fine, no extra coding. Have not tried voice dialling yet as I never make calls. Have not encountered any problems yet. I also have a USB with extra music via mdi in glove box.
This is my story, thank you for listening.

To be honest I haven't connected to the touch adapter after I installed the RCD510. The touch adapter appears to be jealous that I'm connected to the RCD510 by showing up an error message. I then set it to turning off its screen after 15 seconds and can forget about the stupid thing, at least until I next start the car. Steering wheel controls usually work fine for bluetooth audio for volume & skip/seek tracks. Except as I mentioned before the streaming will sometimes (rarely) show just "BT-audio" on the head unit and not any track names. When this happens the steering wheel controls will not skip/seek. Not sure why this is but it doesn't seem to happen very often for me. Any ideas?

Interesting MrDeathLad, I never got the VW Phone option on my RCD310... not that it matters now because it sits quietly in a box in the corner of the garage!!

I'm getting sick of waiting for an iphone5 specific cradle, which will also mean not having a case on my phone.

I got mine from a guy off Gumtree who had just removed it from his MY12.5 Amarok.

As for your link, I have seen that seller before on eBay but he didn't respond when I asked him a question. Perhaps he only responds to sales! The standard ($299) unit is not Bosch and I dont think it is offered with new cars in Aus as it doesn't feature Bluetooth support, so discount that one. The other two are Bosch and I'm fairly certain I have a 190B unit ($369). Supposedly this doesn't support reverse camera input, but it has the mustard coloured reverse jack on the back. Apparently all of the Bosch RCD510 units have reverse camera plugs as standard from MY11.5 builds so that seller must have older stock to still be charging a premium for the 190A unit with reverse cam input. If the lack of reverse camera input doesn't bother you then it doesn't matter. I don't think I'll be fitting one any time soon but its good to know the option is there if I desire.

                  Including shipping $80 each.

And you are right, the phone specific cradles dont allow you to put a case on your phone, where as the Universal XL does.

                  • Wow... will have to read this all again.

in a nutshell this deals with the removal of the standard add on BT screen module that sits to the left of the Head Unit and then integration of a phone cradle (genuine and Aftermarket) for specific mobile phones.

something about the functionality of the bluetooth connection to the phone.... seems to highlight a concern with iphone mostly though? Correct?

Good job I have Samsung Android... fingers crossed it will be better.

Don't want to Stream Music... just voice control calling and the like.

That works fine in the '12 Fabia RS unit so I am hoping the '13 Polo GTI that I just ordered will be as good if not better.

                    • Picked up my new 2013 GTI this morning, upgrade from my 2011 TSI, sweet ride! The touchscreen is liveable but I'd rather an iPhone 5 cradle. Any new on VW genuine as yet? Also had quick look at Bury cradle, I assume with the new System 9 iPhone 5 Cradle I still need to get coding changed is that correct??

                      cheers

                      • Correct and I'm in the same boat as you. I might have to just settle for the recode eventually (with the help of a kind boardmember!)

                        • I wouldn't hold your breath for an OEM cradle, especially since it's taken Bury more than 8 months to make it for the general market. And even if there is one, you'll be getting it shipped from Europe and at a premium as it deems like Australian dealers won't get them in.
I had been told by someone that the MY13s didn't need the coding, and its pretty easy to find out. Connect your phone up to the Bluetooth settings in the MFD, and take the Touch adaptor off. If you get warnings about the touch adaptor being removed, you'll need a recode. If not, then you can order the bury cradle.

FYI - my supplier now says April 29 for iphone 5 bury System 9 cradles. They seem confident on this date this time.

Well just tested this ad no go, radio won't find my phone until I reinsert the adapter.

Will have to look at Bury unit, just need someone in Perth to help with recode etc. Anyone out there??

Lets hope this is the proper date and it wont get delayed another month like previous times. Been waiting for this cradle for so long I made my own little "cradle" to put my phone until the Bury one is released!

                                This might help:
                                1. Insert the adaptor, let it find your phone, etc.
                                2. In the MFD settings, pair your phone directly with the MFD (should be in settings)
                                3. Try removing the adaptor.

More details on doing this are in this thread

If you did that already - then yep, coding time.
