this has probably been asked and answered many times but how long did it take for your car to ship over? and how do you find out which ship your car is on? because I'm now at:

It depends which route it takes... 6 weeks to 9 weeks.

how do you find out which ship your car is on?

I just once a day entered my VIN into the WW shipping website, and one day it popped up thats how I found out the ship name.

Mine was the 9 week route through the Panama, the quicker way is past South Africa.

I've noticed a bit of a lull in build date allocations, has anyone got one for November or December?

Is it always a blocked number that they call from? I've had one calling me for weeks and they NEVER speak and leave a message, but you can hear the background noise and it sounds like a call centre.

My car is already here and I'm still waiting for them to even tell me that it's been built. Not sure why they even bothered setting up the 'hotline'......

You should have a build date by now. Mine was an April order and I should get it next week. Another one I know was end of March and it's about to be loaded on the ship.

When we picked up our new Amarok last week, VW Barloworld in Moorabbin said that Aus was getting more allocations for cars cause I was talking to him about my GTI. My experience has told me that you should take their 'info' with a grain of salt!

I'd suggest calling your dealer, getting them to look in NADCON and get some real answer. Forget the customer service line, they never know anything!!!

hi i ordered my polo gti in june just found out the guy incharge of keeping us informed isnt there anymore what a joke . anyway i sent vw australia off a nasty email and to my surprise got an email back saying my car is in production 12 dec and will keep me informed i suggest u email vw aust from vw aust site and request some service good luck drew

Finally some movement on my order! Dealer (John Hughes Vic Park WA) says they got an allocation of 4 GTI's for Q1 2012 and my order has been allocated slot 2 with a week 6 2012 build date and expected delivery April 2012 (i.e. 1 year after order).

From all of this and discussion with VWA, I understand that VWA/VWG do not allocate cars in contract date order but that the order sits at dealer spec until by some process that remains a mystery to me the dealer gets an allocation of cars which they match to their contracts. This accounts for the discrepancies in delays between contract dates and delivery dates. If there is a thread here somewhere or someone knows about the dealer allocation process then that may help others ask the right questions to select a dealer most likely to achieve early delivery.

Feel for you guys. I ordered mine in April and I've been driving around in it for a month so far! It really is just the luck of the draw!

GOT MY GTI.

Thought I'd finish my waiting history here since I started it here.

8/03/11 - ordered Polo GTI (bi xenons, sunroof, comfort & audio pack, dealer tint+parking sensors+elements protection pack) was told by dealer most likely jan or feb next year arrival, unlikely dec arrival
7/10/11 - 'Assembly of your Volkswagen is scheduled' email
4/11/11 - 'Your Volkswagen is almost ready to go!' email. Assembly completed and awaiting shipping from Bremerhaven with VIN# incl.
16/01/12 - 'Your Volkswagen is here!' email. Undergoing final quality checks, going through customs and will be delivered to dealer.
and then sometime early February received THE CALL from my dealer. picked it up after my thailand trip and have been loving it. worth the wait! many compliments.

After what seems like forever, my order is also progressing. Car is built and left Bremerhaven on 03/03 due in Fremantle on 04/04. So should finally get my car in mid-April. Just under 1 year!

Hey congrats Dazza must be great to know its heading your way at loooong last.
is yours on Otello as that left on 3/3, Tirranna was supposed to but ended up leaving 4/3.
dang it, was hoping mine would be on one of these. Got vin number on 21/2 and told Polo was completed.

On Otello, out of 37 Polos I checked, only three were for Freemantle, the other 34 were all going to Port Elizabeth (Sth. Africa)
No Polo vins were showing up for Tirranna.
if mine doesn't make Asian Emperor which is leaving Bremerhaven today, the next one is Fidelio on 13/3.

Are you going to track yours.....could have had a tracking buddy

Yours can't be far off shipping. I also got my VIN on 21/02.

Have you searched for VIN's in the same number range as yours to try and get some idea where it might be at?
