Whilst at VW Camberwell today I was told that another customer who ordered a few days after me (I ordered on December 4th) "missed out". When I asked what doe that mean I was told he's looking at a delivery sometime in 2012.

Yea, I doubt that. I'm getting a Sept delivery for a Jan 2011 Polo GTI 5-door order.

Just got off the phone to Peninsula VW (Frankston, VIC) and I was told October when I purchased the car, as the worst case scenario and now they've just told me that it's probably going to be the first week of January 2012. Not very happy with that.

i was on the same boat as you.. but i've since cancelled my order which is a shame but im a few days from purchasing a mk5 golf gti instead! i've waited 6months already but unfortunately im not prepared to wait another 7-8 months.

Conincidentally I have to go to Freo today for the first time in months! Will keep an eye out for the big ass red ship! haha.

So excited. Hoping for delivery Saturday after next. Am I too optimistic?

Well done Payno, you lucky guy! I don't reckon you're overly optimistic. When I was at Camberwell VW yesterday mention was made that Polo's seem to get off the wharf pretty quickly. From all my discussions you're looking at a worst case of two weeks - all being good I reckon you might have an opportunity to collect it before Saturday after next.

Can you believe they've almost arrived? I have been so accustomed to talking about delays in delivery it's somewhat surreal to realise they're so close.

On a side point I haven't sold my MINI. I've learned 2 lessons for the future. 1. don't hang on to a car for so long unless you have to (car is just turned 6 years old), 2. if you have a converti9ble, sell at a sunny time of year. I don't have anything to support this but reckon open air driving is bottom of mind when it's cold and rainy.

Anyway, my updated trade-in price is acceptable and is my fallback option.

Now to return to the subject - Payno, please keep us posted. After all, we're sort of related!

Ordered mid December last year, the same day I test drove one. Which was about a week or so after the dealer got their demo's in. They consistently told me that the GTI would not arrive until may-july, so they seem to have been pretty accurate. It's been a long wait!

Saw the ship briefly on my drive past. Our cars are definitely in good company. Plenty of Aston Martin's, Audi's, Porsche's etc and caught a glimpse of a few Golfs.

Tombarra undocked from Freo. ON the way to Melb

Tombarra has left Fremantle - next stop Melbourne. Current ETA is early hours Friday morning.

It's going to be close to the line selling the MINI. I did get another call yesterday from someone who sounds pretty keen and they're taking a look at it on Wednesday. Fingers crossed!
