  • Stock polo GTI wheel is 20kgs with rubber. New Zealand have the 17" Detroit as an option. Without proper lowering, don go 18", it just looks stupid. Same as people that go low with the stock 15" alloys on the tsi, the wheel arch has a considerably larger radius than tha of the wheel and tyre.

Couldn't agree more with you gavs. I notice a few of the UK guys like the 15" and realllly lowered.

      • Are you guys telling me Mr. Silly from Malaysia reviewed a car with aftermarket rims? I can't tell if they are 17 or 18. All I know is that they look good, you can get them in Singapore/ NZ from dealers and we miss out.

          • Went on a defensive driving course at Mt Cotton yesterday with DSA.

I always knew the car was good, but it really is better than I even thought, part of the course included runs down a slalom track and threshold braking and steering,

This car is so solid it is amazing even at 15-20 km faster than most of the rest of the cars on the track through the slalom there was virtually no body roll by comparison and it pulled up quicker and neater than other cars in the controlled braking etc.

Also nothing went wrong, we had cars overheating etc but the VW was solid as a rock.

Some of the other cars included a tuned EG(?) civic with suspension upgrades, a few i30s, and a mini cooper works, plus some larger cars including an XR6, this car really hold its own.

Yeah I had the static cornering lights on the TSI, but they seem so much brighter together with the Bi-Xenons. They light up the whole driveway. Also love the way the Xenons level up when you switch them on.

                  • Had my 9w7 Bluetooth unit - received last week from the Spanish eBay vendor - installed by a local company.

They had issues with it's size - anticipating needing to take out a seat, lift the carpet, all at added labour and expense, of course.

In the end, they placed the unit behind the centre console, above the dead-pedal on the driver's side. It is non-obtrusive there.

They said it functioned right away, did not appear to need any recoding for use with the steering wheel and MFD.

So far, in my short experience, the phone works, the MFD works, the steering wheel buttons work as expected.

But the phone book is jumbled, and the BT-Audio tab is greyed out, despite the BT Audio box being checked in the settings.

Does anyone have a manual? That might help me sort out these issues. I have also asked the seller.

                    • Got my car back after 9 days in the shop getting the piston rings and other things replaced.

Booked my APR Tune for Monday morning. Saturday I am getting my car lowered and tyres rotated.

Coding issue most likely, will need to plug in VCDS and activate "telephone" under the instruments tab I think it is....

                        • No, not a coding issue, it seems.

                          1. Media player - I just had to launch the media player on my Android phone (HTC Desire, running Froyo 2.2), and the greyed out BT-Audio tab lit up.

Pros - I can now use my phone's media player! It is much more powerful than the RCD 510 in that it will play ANY format music - no longer have to convert my Apple Lossless files for playing in the car. Also, I can resume an hour long podcast where it left off, rather than relaunch and fast forward through (then, inevitably, rewind a bit, then fast forward a bit, etc) to get to where I left it off.

Cons - while volume and mute work on the steering wheel, I cannot control even basic functions on the phone from the player (play, pause) like I can on my other vehicle's Bluetooth module (a Pioneer licensing Parrot technology). (The other steering wheel buttons work fine for setting up the thing, through the MFD, by the way.)

-Also, no track info gets displayed, like it does on my other vehicle's Bluetooth module (the Pioneer) (I understand this is hit and miss with iPhones, too.)

                          2. As for the phone book jumbling, this happened on the Pioneer unit until a firmware update fixed the issue. So I gather it is a compatibility issue. Kind of sucks for a brand new unit, though. Fortunately, you can program 6 presets, and I can only think of 4 that I want to program....

Any way there are other threads that discuss these issues (several hundred pages long...) on this forum.

All in all, for half the price, stereo BT streaming, good call quality and a really nice RCD 510 interface, I'm pretty pleased.

Oh yeah, also installed LED plate lights last night - thanks to GTI Joe for the recommendation.

                          • Came across this today after some web searching:

ITG Maxogen Air Filter Intake System For VW Polo GTI 1.4 TSI

Looks pretty good value at about $400 AUD.

Wonder how it will compare to the APR Induction kit.

I will post pics up tomorrow once my car has been lowered.

                              • Tune is done this morning.

Super pleased with it so far.

I would probably get an intercooler before I got an exhaust.
