Exactly. You remove it, you also remove a high proportion of the required air for cooling the brakes and diff too.

I tried to refit it but it was soon ripped off again by our bloody driveway!

Sorry for the crappy pics – iPhone 4 and dark room don't help...

How did she do so much damage, is the car lowered.

She just isn't a careful driver and really doesn't care about her car that much.

Yes Gav I know it does many important things (hence why I re-fitted it) but it got ripped off again in a week!

The reason it gets scraped is because our driveway is made of gravel and it's really steep (and 500m long), and rain has washed heaps of the gravel away down both sides to leave what is effectively a convex curve right down the middle, which in places is high enough to scrape the front end.
We usually get the driveway graded every year but the recent rain has made it very bad and our driveway grading man is on holidays.

            • Hi from Adelaide,
Just a thought I'd post on here my 6R VW Polo Trendline, however before I post a quick spill.

I bought my Trendline around 22 months ago - Flash Red with the DSG - great little car. However last week there was a little bingle, I wont go into details as that is not the intent of my first post.

My intent is to show you all (if some don't already know) the safety aspect of these great little cars.

However I will say this, the following was the result of being T-Boned at 60km/h - my wife and kids got out with no major injuries.

The car can be replaced, thankfully it protected the wife & kids

Side note: got the 5th set of shoes in 2 years for mine.

                • Love the wheels and tyres PoloDave! Look forward to seeing them on. Is your car lowered?

Can you give some more specifics ie wheel and tyre details and where you purchased them?

Proof right there that every parent in this country doesn't need an SUV the size of a postcode to keep their children safe. Hat tip to you!

I had my wife bake a number 10 cake to take into the dealership. As you can imagine the Service Manager wasn't particularly impressed.
Would love to have seen the service managers face when you presented the "celebratory" cake!! What a classic.

That's not a great track record for a new car.....hope things get better or I would be genuinely considering moving it on. I assume your engine was replaced due to oil consumption issues (judging by how many consumption tests you have done) rather than it going bang (which is another common failure with these twin-charger motors).

                          • What are the chances they go bang because they seize up from people not checking the oil and it compleatly running out. I know your thinking well the oil light would come on but they had failty sensors as well didn't they? Would just be a very bad set of circumstances...

In theory yes it could happen - but the owner would have to be completely careless to ignore the "check oil" messages on their dash for months on end for that to happen. The more real issue is holes in pistons and subsequent loss in compression due to running too lean and hot.
