Mine was the whole plastic and faux-leather assembly. 2 screws on the inside of the console, some twist, some bend, and you're done.

got around to dealing with, what I think, was the most stupid feature on the 6r. they managed to squeeze in tire pressure sensors, side mirror dimisters, full sized spare and state of the art airbag systems. but they forgot to include this?! shame shame shame

Nice - always handy. How much does the gas strut it weigh?
The GTI lost the full sized spare, and shifted the battery to the back

I agree. I had built to a budget, carved out of stone low tech falcons with gas struts on the bonnet.

But all the tech savvy, state of the art, nerd built, jap and Euros iv owned none have had gas struts. WTF?

Is that a home made job or a kit from somewhere?
Does it use original holes or did you make some yourself?

just a 20$ strut from supercheap, as similar to the a3/golf single strut. had to drill two 6mm holes and one 8mm. and some basic calculations. were no original holes cause no 6r's had holes supplied.

Washed and waxed. Found a stone chip. My unmarked car now marked again. Must have been one helluva "stone", it seems to have made 3 marks.
