  • Well i got a TSI, i want to trade that in for sure as much as i love it...but seeing too many silly P-platers i have lost the love of it.

35k is a bit much, so i'm guessing it would be better to wait for a bit?

I got my TSI for 26k with MDI, Sports, DSG with mats idk if that was a good price but meh.

    • Yeah, look at it this way. The gti is a great car, no doubt but the cost difference to you could net you some nice goodies for your tsi to differentiate your car if you can't stump up right away. Hell, in 12 months when the car would probably be ready I you ordered it now, you might have the cash but you also might love your tsi a bit more and wont want to part with it either way, there are plenty of go-fast goodies and dress up parts getting around now

      • Well the reason i got the TSI was because the GTI was taking it's sweet time to turn itself up on the Australian market, i guess i just need to weigh up the options.

        • Is there still a long wait for the GTI........

          • Worst person to ask, but from what i heard seems so then again as a previous customer of both my TSI and a Golf GTI Mk6 I'm hoping (touch wood) to find something special.........

would be nice shall find out tomorrow, but what i love about my car is i managed a way to wash it once a week and keep it exactly how i bought her (shining and without a scratch....touch wood)

            • Apologies for the double post, just been in correspondence with my dealer and i can get a 3dr Polo GTI MY2012 with the LED number plate lights (extras Bi-Xenon, Panaramic roof, Audio pack) mid August 2011 as the My2011 apparently is delayed due to component issues, its nothing to do with strikes, production faults.

It's all based on some muppet 3rd party company being too incompitent to produce enough parts to install said "phantom" item...all i was told its not related to the engine/chasis so it must be interior.

Price delivered/quoted for 3dr GTI, flash red with: Bi-Xenons, Panoramic sunroof, audio pack - $34,500 (mind you i am a previous customer bought a Mk6 GTI and also the TSI)

              • That explanation doesn't make too much sense.
Any car build from now would be MY12 anyway.... they don't just keep building the old sec (MY11) cars amoungst MY12 cars. It's got nothing to do with when you order, it's when it's built that determines that.

(I could be just misinterpretting what you're saying, as parts shortages cause delays all the time, it's just strange to here that it some how makes a diff to get a MY12 car instead of the MY11 car).

                • Again, it's purely based on information given to me via word of mouth from the dealer.

All he said is the delays could be from a component relating to something as small as "Seat bolts, brackets" or as complex as Suspensions.

He informed me if i ordered for a MY2012 i would see it mid August...which i just noded and took into account for information as we all know when a dealer says a date it's usually not the case and can be either weeks or possibly a month after proposed arrival date.

                  • Yeah, no worries Hail22, I know that you're just letting us know what your dealer has told you.

Once they do a production change, they don't keep building old specs. For example, whilst you placed an order when they were building MY11's, that already changed months ago to MY11.5 - so if there wasn't a delay, that is what you would have received, an MY11.5, not MY11.

But if it's still not already built, it will become a MY12 as that's starting any week (day?) now.

I have a week 22 Build Polo GTI for a customer it arrives in sydney 22/08/2011 ETA so I would suggest a September Delivery at the very least. I also had this car at odered since.. 24/01/2011 so my idea is if you ordered the car by Midday last Wednesday 25th may before Midday you would have a Car by December.

                      • GTI Pricing

                        Hi All,

Well I'm either the luckiest person around or can put on a pretty impressive disappointed face as I only decided on Saturday to get a new car, decided on Sunday it was going to be a Polo GTI, test drove and bought one today from the local VW dealer and with a pick up on Wednesday. It comes with metallic paint, leather seats, xenon lights, comfort pack and the upgraded stereo with the price drive away (in Vic) of just a few hundred shy of $40,000.

With only a few days of research and looking around I'm curious to find out if this price is about average considering the options, supply issues, etc?

                        Cheers

                        • Sounds a little on the high side to me. For that price I'd expect a sunroof as well. I reckon the price is around $2k overpriced, but in a tight supply situation as we have it's a sellers market

                          • As Frostee said, a bit high BUT you don't have to wait 6+ months for your car, so it is not THAT bad if you think about it.

                            Congrats

                            • for that money you were damn near golf gti money - which are getting discounts. of course, if you REALLY wanted the polo, irrelevant but id prefer the golf gti having driven both

                              • To the thread starter: Comparisons to Golf aside, I saw a 4000km dealer demo Polo GTI with similar specs going for 38k not too long ago. So 40k for a new one isn't too far of a stretch.

Yes the Golf GTI may only be slightly more BUT that's the very base model. Add Leather, BT, MDI, bixenons, parking sensors like what you have and some might argue that's close to R territory

It never ever stops: this comparison game.

As for driving experience, I really like the more eager response and the throatier exhaust note on the Polo GTI. In a daily drive situation, with mafia-style enforced speed cameras, you probably have more fun and more opportunities revving up to speed limits due to the eagerness of the engine than being able to appreciate the Golf GTI when it finally gets into its element at higher speeds (where you are potentially at risk of losing your licence)

                                Each car has its merits.

                                Just enjoy what you have.
