  • Well done and congratulations......often it's all about timing (being in the right place at the right time) so good for you Does sound a little on the high side price wise but weighing up getting it now as opposed to 6+ mths, well I am sure if you didn't snatch it up, someone else would willingly have done so, dealer also knows this, so doubt they would be in the discounting mood. So what colour (metallic costs a bit more than solid colours) and assume it's a 5 dr? Personally, wish the seats were a straight leather like the Golf as opposed to leatherette/suede combo, but heated is still nice

    • davidred - even if you did pay more than the average, then don't dwell on it. The fact that you're going to have her in your hands on Wednesday more than makes up for it.
No waiting, no delays, no worrying....just pure enjoyment
      Congratulations.

        I was the same
Needed car Saturday, bought Sunday, picked up Friday.
        Mine was a cancelled order.
Mine was similar price but without the metallic paint.
Yes, the Golf was "better value" but not a similar comparrison. You still need to add $10k for similar specs
I really doubt I would have waited 6 - 12months for my car. Especially seeing as my other car had stopped.
The dealer I had bought off also has a 2ndhand one with 7,500kms, 6 months rego and only $500 saving.
        It has also since sold.
As for the actual price you paid - forget it. I have. Enjoy what you bought and the fact if is not a Golf.

        • Hi David
I am sure its the black one from camberwell and you literally snatched it from my hand ..I was there at 3.30 yesterday and I was sent back and asked to come back at 5 as I made up a time of 5 with one of the salesmans. So I was killing time in camberwell from 3.30 to 5 and the salesman who sold a car to you didnt know I was promised a test drive of that car at 5 and he sold it to you. I received a call at 4.45 saying its been sold. So you are lucky indeed or I would say it was meant to be yours. I was ready to buy the that car too.

Anyways, congratulations and am sure you will enjoy the car.

              • Thanks for the comments everyone. I'm happy with the price but the tight arse in me always wants a deal but this time around I think I'll accept the little extra on top to have it within a few days.

avvashi - what can I say but sorry! This is the same car you were going to test drive.
Frostee - when was yours delivered? The odometer on this is < 100km so would be curious to know how long it's been sitting on the floor for.

                • Collected mine on 10th June, the black one had only just arrived and was in the showroom. It came to the dealership on the same truck as mine.

                  • I've only just started to read this thread and forgive me if this post is not relevant but are any of you owners coming from a current model Impreza WRX? I have a 2010 model and find the experience a little lacking. I'm not a hoon and I don't like to thrash my cars. I do appreciate good build quality and refinement something which I believe the Impreza lacks. What are your thoughts on my moving to the Polo GTI?

                    • i would say a move to the golf gti is more of a natural progression. similar sized, similar shape (hatch).
the polo gti is a touch smaller.

                      • Nothing short of a golf R can match the wrx for power etc and VW aren't actually that reliable (unlike what people think). Appart from the abhorent styling, povvo pack interior, sh**house front seats, thirsty engine and the tendancy to lunch CV joints, I'd say that the WRX is a better animal in regards to performance.

The fact you also won't be waiting for 12+ months to get one either......

When I was picking my car up on Friday, there were a couple of blokes sitting near me and I overheard them talking to a salesman. Apparently they have a 2 week old Impreza (not sure whether it was was an STi or whatever) and they hate it, they want to trade it for a GTI.

The Subaru Dealer is only 3 doors down surely they could have test driven both when buying the car, but my god are they going to take a hammering on resale...what idiots!

                          • Last year's MOTOR Hot Tuner challenge saw a Golf GTI (Stage 3, albeit with ~$30k of power and handling upgrades, for a total cost around the $70k's) absolutely SMASH Lancer Evo X and Subaru Impreza STI's (also substantially upgraded, and also substantially more costlier than the GTI, one of the Subaru's being a total of $115k). When I say "SMASH" I mean, beat by 6+ seconds per lap of Eastern Creek. This was also on an extremely wet track, so it was the worst case scenario for GTI's FWD and best case scenario for the Lancer & WRX's AWD.

The 0 to 100km/h and 400m times were obviously in the Lancer & WRX's favour though.

I guess it depends what's important to you

                            • The resale is what someone else is willing to pay for it. Car sales websites confirm that the second-hand market for WRXs is good as is for the GTI pedigree. Not the same for the V8 fraternity when belts have to be tightened.

As I said I'm not a hoon and only sprint when I need to so track times mean little to me even though I had a ball the last two times I went on one. The big attraction for me, apart from the VW build quality and design, is the DSG. I had a Mini Cooper and miss the paddles.

                              • while vw servicing is not cheap in absolute terms, subaru are right up there due to awd and wrx insurance is way morethan a gti
