Was this a dealer demonstrator? How many km's? It really depends on how you feel. There's probably plenty of people out there that would pay retail to get their hands on one now. For me, Im not in a position where I have to have a car immediately so I'm happy to sit it out and wait for the fuss to die down as well as other models like the Fabia RS to come into play.
Either way, you've got a fun new toy on the way so just enjoy the good times!

Thanks Molotov! It's a brand new car and only had 10km on it. I'm not much of a haggler and knew that if I didn't get it someone else would! I walked in there intending to buy a Golf but ended up with the Polo

Hi Gavs, yes it was the drive away price. They said they couldn't reduce the price cos it was a GTI but said they wouldn't charge me for the rear sensors which costs $695.

I think they were pretty confident that if I didn't buy it someone else would.

What determines the YEAR of (an imported) car... Is it the:
- BUILD date?
- Compliance date?
- First registration date?

My car has a build date of Sept 2010 but compliance date of 07/11?

All of those are separate events. Add to that "Model Year" (MY), which is a specification change.

You'll see on car sales that people say "2008 MY09" etc. The 2008 means build year. The MY09 is model year.
People over this side of the country don't normally care about compliance date. However, as yours is significantly later, you could mention it as it shows it was "in storage" for at least 6 months.

The VW dealership only opened 2 weeks ago, so I guess it was just sitting in storage until they opened.

It would be a 2010 MY11
In other words, built in 2010, and a MY11 (model year/spec revision).

Yep, changeover to My11.5 was week 2 2011, MY12 happened about 4 weeks ago.....

Is $35,750k drive away a decent price for a 3 door candy white with xenons/comfort/sunroof/audio? I would have thought, based on this thread and the long delay in orders, that's at least $1k too much?

Where is the dealership located? Where are you registering the vehicle? What kind of plates were specified?

Base car: $27990
Xenons: $1600
Comfort: $550
Audio: $770
Sunroof: $1900(? or is this letherette?)

Vehicle total is $32810 rrp. Add dealer delivery ($2500 to Epping) Rego ($612) and slimline plate fee($60) you would be looking at a drive away cost of $35982 which is based on my circumstances and where I live so actually crumbs, by the look of it (pending confirmation of the cost of the sunroof) you have actually got a cheaper price. You can ask for a cost breakdown of dealer delivery costs from the dealership and if they refuse to give it to you, then yes, you are being screwed. Burwin for examplpe have a sheet that lists all of the costs for dealer delivery that you can pick up

In NSW I ordered (in Feb) a 3dr candy white, whith xenons/comfort/audio for $33,175 delivered. But I got a pretty good fleet discount by ordering through Private Fleet. So I guess that leaves 2.5k for the sunroof...

At work, so haven't got my contract on me, but think the sunroof is $1600 and e leatherette $1900.
Also very noteworthy, DD not only vary between dealerships in the same State, but within the same dealership.
As Gav mentioned, Burwin do have a print out available as do Barloword Glen Waverley.

In fact they have increased their DD on the Polo GTI from $2495 ( Jan) to $2995 which I found out just on Sat afternoon.
Burwin may have done the same thing.
Our dealerships DD is $2990.
