I found the RCD310 a bit underdone power and clarity wise....

If you spend a bit more time in the RCD310 menus you will find there's some decent sound clarity to be found, not audiophile decent but good enough for average joe.

As far as i'm aware the RCD510 upgrade does not get you any different speakers. I'm not sure about the RMS outputs of each the two units but I would be surprised if this made much difference.

If you are after better sound quality you would be better off getting a full after market system including a Double-DIN head unit.

I currently have the RCD510 in a Tiguan, although I've upgraded to better speakers, amp and sub.
I am actually more interested in the MDI that comes as part of the upgrade, and am just curious is there is a "sound" benefit from the RCD510 over and above the RCD310

Can anyone tell me what the Bluetooth kit costs for the GTI? And can the dealer fit it for me or is it a factory add-on?

The basic line for all models is 'No, it isn't a factory option; it's a dealer option and will cost between $700 and $800'. There are a few threads on here discussing the pro's and con's of the dealer fitted option. By the way, there is a premium version which has a lot more features; but also costs alot more money, double.

Sigh, we almost had one today, long story but not meant to be.....
Even had the exact specs and colour, due in country in a few months.

You would be correct, didn't see the value in the extras personally. Dealer's throwing in a few nice things for me but otherwise standard. 11 days and counting!

4 options depending on sound system.

With standard RCD 310- very basic Bluetooth $600
- Fiscon Bluetooth $890 (not sure of features)

With upgrade RCD510 - again the basic Bluetooth
- Premium bluetooth $990 (wirelessly integrates with the MFD via audio system which then allows you to
make calls, answer calls etc and loads your phone book into the MFD to allow you to look up contacts also via this system.

There is also a 4th option which they suggest more for commercial vehicles that has a touch pad screen which sits above the air vents for example, not sure of price.

I'm pi$$ed off. I placed my order three days after they arrived at the dealer in December and they're saying it will be 6 months ! (5 door, white)

No sorry, but any dealership should be able to supply that for you.
I do recall him saying that with the upgrade (RCD 510) I wouldn't be able to use
the Fiscon bluetooth @ $890, but could still use the basic one or the premium kit.

Be thankful it is only 6 months.....

I ordered mine on 27/11/10 and cannot be supplied a delivery date because Volkswagen Group Australia are as useless as breasts on a bull.

All I get told is that my car will be here sometime between the end of August and the end of December....

I mean it is only a 9 - 13 month wait for a Volkswagen.... Aston Martin are quicker and they are hand built

If you want one sooner just call more dealers, there are cars out there. You need to be flexible on the options you want though.
