  • Had rattles ages ago, it was fixed with a bracket system.

Now some people will say there is rattling going on when applying your foot down for power to get a lower gear in the DSG, and also when going over speed bumps Do not fret!!! it isn't a problem...it's actually the gearbox searching for the appropriate gear (happens at slower speed)

I was told this happens in the 118TSI DSG aswell (Chatswood Service dept) I don't understand why it would make this sound but the rattling in the engine bay has stopped since the new bracket installation.

If your under warranty, request for a fuel line and A/C bracket update they will need the car for a few hours to install said bracketing.

Ever since i did this in Feb i have had no rattling what so ever.

If i can get a clear shot i will take a photo to show you what it looks like in a stock TSI engine bay, and the revised change with bracketing system.

    • The dealer said that VW won't honor rattles after cars have more than 7k on them, which means if you have a rattle or squeak don't wait till your first service...
Gotta love the lies that come out of these dealerships don't you

"I'm sorry sir, your driver's chair has completely collapsed and is rattling now, but because the car has travelled only 7000 out of the 100,000km warranty, we won't fix it because it has caused a rattle..."

You know what, it amazes me the amount of sheer and utter bulls*it that just Polo buyers are being told, imagine the full amount of crap that comes out of the mouths of VW employees to all other model owners and buyers.

My list of trusted VW employees is now at 2.......

In addition got 2 new problems:

        - Rain sensing wipers not working at all (as soon as put on auto they just turn on, tried cleaning the sensor and does nothing)
        - Water getting in to the door/hatch of the boot. Can clearly hear water sloshing around when I open the boot door and it kind of dribbles out of a few spots when opened...
Hey mate, with the rain sensing wipers, it should be a coding issue where it hasnt been enabled on the car. Pretty simple to fix but needs to be booked in, they just plug the car in, check to see if the box is ticked, if its not, tick it, done. Theres been a couple of others on here with the same problem (myself included)

Not to sure about the water in the boot issue... quite curious about this one, will have to have a look at mine. I read somewhere that someone got this when they installed the reversing camera\boot opener in, something about it not sealing up the same but thats a different issue. Hope this one gets saughted out for ya.

As far as I know, VW won't cover rattles unless they can be rectified by component replacement, or there is a known (VW-documented) repair. The dealership would normally foot the bill, unless the warranty clerk is of the creative type.

Most rattles are caused by other influences such as accessory-fitting, owner-abuse, and errant coins, etc.

As for the dash lighting. It seems that the setting for 11.5 are different and are set to off. They can't work out how to get them on. So no joy there.

On the positive, scored a set of new number plate covers.
The car went back for the sequel. After 1 day, I got it back .... with the rattle in tact. It seems they could not locate it in the engine bay so it would need to go back for at least 2 days!! Yup at least. They think it is behind the dash so the idea is to remove the dash and locate the rattle. This is by far my biggest fear of any car ownership.

So, should I take it back to CCC or try somewhere else first? Thoughts please.

                • Try another dealership, if you believe you are not getting anywhere with them.

Make it known to the alternative dealership, that you're giving them a go at it. Rattles can be time-consuming to resolve.

My biggest fear too. My rattle IS behind the dash, and the thought of it being removed to find the rattle then put back without creating more issues is stopping me from leaving it with them. Mine seems worse in very cold mornings, so I am praying for an early spring and just turn the stereo on. Hmm.

Mccarrolls Waitara, speak to Sharron, Ben or Steve and tell them what your experiencing they may/may not have an answer for you.

The only so called "Rattle" i get is if the DSG has gone to 7th gear and i put my foot down light, its the DSG finding the right gear for the application of my foot.

The other rattle i know of is the fuel line/ac line that was fixed in march when VW made a bracket system which is covered by warranty.

Hope you get this sorted soon mate

It would appear that you have the same issue as I have. Mine amps up in the cold too. Which dealerships have you gone to?

                        • Noticed the sunroof rattle for the first time today. Was driving along a bumpy concrete road with the roof closed and I'm pretty sure it was the wind deflector making the noise. It wasn't very loud and it wasn't a constant rattle, just every now and then. I drove back along it with the sunroof open and there was no rattle. My Astra had an awful rattle from somewhere in the dashboard and the sunroof rattle is very quiet compared to it...so it doesn't really bother me.

I'm here in Canberra. Could not get the first dealer (Gerald Slaven) to even reply to my emails. Have had positive experience with Lennock Motors in a basic service, so will take the car back to them. They were good and came out in the car with me to listen for a noise - but of course the car was warm - so no noise. Will need to leave it overnight with them...

what RPM / speed does your noise show it's head at ?

Mine occurs between 1,500 and 2,000 which is characteristic of the fuel/air/brake lines. I am a little suspecious now thinking about it as the rattle was not as bad before the so called fix. I am wondering if while doing the fix, they undid a bracket somewhere (may be inside the dash). Hmmmm

                              • My 77TSi is going back to the dealership on Wednesday to hopefully sort out the horrendous rattle at idle that has returned after the fuel line bracket fix was done in May. Had some smart alec say to me the other day, "What's wrong with your diesel?". Grrr...
