I've been given a replacement car and i should have it back today, but i'm not happy any thoughts on what i should say to the dealer?
We can feel for you Alex.
We picked up our Polo 77TSI manual on Thursday 13/01 and it was back to the Dealer on Friday 14/01 with an ABS fault which they could not fix before the weekend.
The Polo went back to the dealer again on the 18/01 and that is where it still is now.
We do have a Dealer supplied Golf.
Ironically the Dealer has now had the Polo longer than us !
Once we have the Polo back, we will write to VW (Aust) and express our disappointment.

    TCO.

Well so far I haven't seen the issue I've got in this thread, so I am now concerned that I may have a dud.

I've just bought a brand new MY11 66TDi Polo with DSG and a few other options that are irrelevant to this problem.

I'd be interested to hear from anybody with a 2010 or 11 Polo. I got the TDI with DSG a few weeks back.
Anyway, I've discovered something of a flaw, much to my horror. I was trying to reverse out of work's driveway the other day, this meant reversing up quite a steep driveway and amongst other cars. Anyway, I've done this countless times in my other cars no problem but the other day I found that the Polo will edge forwards about half a foot or so before it actually engages, regardless of how much throttle I use. I ended up having to "rest" myself on the car in front to actually reverse out. It was either that or really bang into the car in front. Fortunately for the car I nudged (a colleague's) there was absolutely no mark, but mine got a small scratch as a result.

I've tried this a number of times again with the safety of no other cars this time and each time it will edge forward first. Is anyone else having this issue with their Polos?

I reverse out of my brothers driveway all the time which is only short but reasonably steep... No such problems here... Half a foot isn't very far though - about 15cm? How close were you parked to the car in front?

Originally, I was a good metre away, but the problem was the more I tried it the more I kept edging towards it. I tried several times to get reverse to ride up into the handbrake so that when I released it it would go back, but each time it went forward before it would bite

Given I have ordered a similar car I thought I should read up on this. There is talk on other Volkswagen forums about this issue [www.golfmkv.com], the generic comment is 'When you park, put on the handbrake, place the car in neutral, take your foot off the brake and then put the car in park'.

Have picked up my Polo recentely and think it will be a great car once run in. I did notice something odd this afternoon though coming home from work. Putting on the cruise control set at 100km/h the needle droppped down to 96/97km/h, tried a few times, did the same. Then upped the speed to 110km/h and once again dropped to mid 90's. Hasn't happen before today, only thing can think of is the fact the fuel is just under a quarter of a tank, would this make a difference or could there be something wrong? Looking to fill up over weekend and try again on Monday.

Thanks for the heads up. Looks like I'm not alone to have suffered this

I think this is pretty normal with the DSG (without Hill Assist), cos it's basically a manual without a clutch pedal. As you take your foot off the brake, it takes maybe half a second for the gear to engage, and then you're fine. But for that half second, depending on how steep a slope you're on, the car would roll. Just apply the handbrake, take your foot off the brake pedal, lightly press the accelerator (if it's really steep) and slowly release the handbrake. A couple of times and you should be pretty familiar with the feel and how hard you have to step on the accelerator.

All of the Australian delivered cars including the Trendline are meant to have Hill Start Assist as standard.

I know someone else mentioned the same problem in this thread and they just had the lines wrapped to stop the rattling. Either way since then so far so good.
I have this problem after i had the aircon rattle fixed ( rattle wen accelerating up hills or wen warm) i dunno whether or not to bother the dealer with it, its only there wen the car is idling cold.. Mayb i cud fix it myself, its like a rattle under the windscreen on the drivers side.

                      • Had my Polo a few days and just noticed the rattle from the drivers side when I'm braking. Have only heard it the once so I'll have to keep an eye on it. One other thing I noticed, and it's no big deal, but the reflection from the Silver trim around the drivers side air vent projects straight onto the window at pretty much the same spot you look into your side mirrors which can be a bit distracting sometimes. Might be more to do with the tinting than anything else.

My Polo does have Hill Assist though. But as far as I am aware this is only designed to work from stopping you rolling backwards while in D or S, not rolling forwards when you are in R.

The situation I was in was quite precarious as I had both a car in front and behind me and made it very tricky to apply the right amount of throttle when reversing without it:
A: taking off and hitting the car behind
B: rolling forwards and hitting the car in front

                          • Hmmmm i have a My 11, and Hill assist has worked for me in Reverse, Drive and Sport.

                            Interesting....

I agree - noticed it worked in reverse last night.

                              • Just picked up a new Polo GTI last week, currently experiencing a growling/whining sound when the air conditioner is on. It only occurs between 1-1500 rpm though. Anyone else experience this as well?
