Well, nothing mechanical (is that good?), failed ABS controller board failure...

    • Finally got the car back this afternoon. (Or evening, considering how long I waited in line with the other suffering customers)

      • Cylinder 1 has gone FUBAR (ESP, Engine and EPC light illuminated) faults reported as Cylinder 1 misfire and Cylinder 1 disabled and DTC in engine control module.

Had a look and it appears the HT leads have gone on cylinder 1. Coil pack appears to be ok. Swapped the cylinder 1 lead with cylinder 3 and cleared the DTC's. ran it and cylinder 3 misfired and was disabled with the same DTC's so I think it's pretty definitive.

Done 45000km (and the 45000km service on wednesday :s) so I'm not too sure if its a pre mature wear and tear thing or if its actually a problem. Car will be looked at on Monday so hopefully we can get a answer to when it will be fixed...

At least nothing too major - it still got me home

Interesting its not a GTI, its a 1.2tsi. Anyone had problems with the HT leads with these motors.

Just had a chat with a friend in Stutgart, the VW 1.2 TSI should not have a naturally occuring HT lead fry / fault, he eluded that it could be due to poor care from the service department, he asked if you noticed like a plastic / rubber smouldering smell? If so...he says its your mechanic / VW service centers fault and advises you do a full diagnostics including the inspection of each cylinder as there may be some damage.

          Regards.

          • Na leads are fine physically on the outside - just not getting a spark through by the looks of it. No burning or smell and I would know I'm always looking under the bonnet and checking things so its not neglect.

I want to blame the service department but if no fault was stored (which I know it wasn't because I check with VCDS whenever I do changes) then I guess it's not there fault, they didn't know.

And what do you mean check the seals on the cylinders? The engine is fine (to the best of my knowledge) the cylinder was deactivated after it noticed it knocking so no fuel was been pumped into it.

Was interesting though was just driving normal, started going up a hill and heard a bang (could have been the engine or just a pot hole) and then all the engine lights came on and it limped up the hill like a dog

As the Irish say: To be sure to be sure (not joking).

What I meant to say is have the block inspected (long day in the sun and on the water so bare with my bad reply!)...sometimes things are not picked up by sensors or VCDS. For all you know there may be other problems, are the spark plugs in good condition / new?, you could of possibly bought tainted fuel from your local servo? (some stations have a tiny amount of water however the lazy ones that don't check and maintain their tanks have a lot of moisture). I would assume its a fuel / Spark plug issue.

              • I filled my tank up at the start of the week as it was running fine until just now so its not fuel. Spark plugs are original and I pulled the number 1 cylinder out and it was fine (a tad of carbon) but nothing out of whack, and as i said I changed the leads over from first to third and first ran fine and third was faulty so I think it's just the cable...

Not uncommon for a plug lead to fail, but they generally take a lot longer then 45,000! Still, if its jus a lead then that won't cause any other issues I can think of.

                  • Got the car back today, its running - that's the only positive.

The negative - they have cut the new wire and tried to cover it up with plastic tubing (though they say that's part of the new "design" which doesn't fit in the holders and hangs over the exhaust!!!).

Now I have to go back again before moisture goes in the wire and shorts out internally or it arcs back to the body 😡

I think it's safe to say there isn't a single dealer in Victoria who is competent...

                          • Without going back over the 138 pages - is there a solution for a squeaky drivers seat. It's driving me completely mental. Hit a bump and it squeaks, turn a corner and it squeaks, accelerate and it squeaks, drive it cold and it squeaks.

Arrrgggghhhhh! I've got the normal tartan GTI seats - not faux leather.

I've had my seat fixed for this same problem. Took VW 2 cracks to get it fixed and it's not uncommon either.

                              • Hi guys

Haven't read through every single post in this thread - just a general scan.

Had my Polo GTI MY 12.5 for exactly a year now, and just starting having some problems with rough idling. Some days it is fine, others the whole car trembles.

Taken it to VW service twice - the first time was a general check over where no fault was found. The second was for software updates.

I'd like to have full faith in the service team, but can't help feel a little anxious/annoyed over the issue.

Anyone had a similar issue or know what it may be?

                                Thanks
                                Jess
