Does the 'clunk' come from the physical brake pedal assembly or from somewhere behind?
I have noticed some weird noises from somewhere behind the dash related to braking in my sister's Polo.

Does it go flat to the floor during normal braking, or only when stopped? The braking system does change the feel of the pedal a lot depending on how you use it i.e if you push the pedal really slowly it will travel further but if you suddenly stomp on the brakes the pedal will only move slightly. Also I can quite easily push the brake pedal right to the floor on my sister's Polo when stopped, just by pushing really slowly.

And I hate having to bring it to a "stealer" as well, rip offs, so only bring it for warranty work.

It's the actual brake pedal itself. It's like a 50/50 hearing the clunk and feeling it. And it does exactly as you said it does, depending on how hard you press it. I suppose its just weird as I've never had a car do such a thing. It feels that the brakes are "drive-by-wire" and that the actual pedal feel is artificially made, but I'm not positive about that. I've had a "Bangle" 530i BMW and the brakes were "drive-by-wire" so there was no physical connection between pedal and actual brakes, but it never felt like our Polo. So just wasn't sure if its how they are or am I needing to bring it to the very special Paul Wakeling service department again.

What do you guys think?

Ok, so your outer front headlights are on, and the rear lights and number plate light? But not the inner front headlights?

Remember that the outer front headlights on the Polo are low-beam and the inner front headlights are high-beam. I think the Polo uses plain old low-beam as DRL's normally, but I think the Golf uses its high-beam as DRL's with reduced voltage (and so brightness).

Yup exactly! And that's what I think is the issue, as even the number plate lights are on constantly. I've seen another Polo just the other day at MacArthur square in the car park (where even during the day it's pretty dark) and it had the inner lamps on, but at a reduced voltage so that they were not as bright and intense.

So that's what I was wondering, whether or not it was normal and/or if anyone experienced the same thing. And would it be a self fixable thing or a stealer only thing!

Ok well when we bought ours the dealer had already disabled DRL's altogether, so I can't check mine to see what's 'normal', but I think yours is set to the 'Nordic' setting which has things how you describe.
If you have VCDS you can do it yourself, but otherwise a trip to the stealer will unfortunately be necessary.

If you are getting a thump and a small pulsation through the brake and your on the slightest of a hill it's probably the hill assist. Sometimes it can't decide of it wants to stay engaged or release the pressure...

And thus will hold for a bit and then release and then hold again and release. Nothing to be worried about...I think haha

Started the car today and it sounded like a diesel. After a quick bonnet pop and a listen/feel I had narrowed it down to the fuel pump or injector noise. Scan with the VCDS confirmed low pressure warning fuel regulator. Drove straight into the dealer. Took them 1 1/2 to tell me what I knew. Fuel pump was shot and would be replaced tomorrow when a new one come in. Apart from the noise and check engine light it ran fine. I had one occasion of a dead spot but that was it. Was told I couldn't drive it in case it complete shat it self and rained bits into the cams/ valve train.

To my surprise the curtesy car came out, a Audi Q5. Must have fought it early. Have heard some horror story's from mates of Mk6 golfs just not starting and them taking days to work it out so the outcomes not to bad providing they fix it properly. Should be a quick easy job considering the position of it.

So the cars in the shop. I get home and my tail lights have turned up.....

Clutches finally replaced.

What a difference! The lag that use to exist previously seems to have gone, and the power take up is more immediate than before.

Silly question. My 3 year warranty expires December this year, if this happens in 2.5 years time, I'm on my own aren't I?

DSG Box and clutch are now covered by a new 5 year Warranty however if it was to be 2.5 years time then yes...you "may" be up a creek.

So they replaced the high pressure fuel pump but there's still anouther noise. Was told they had emailed VAG HQ for permission to take the rocker cover off. So now I have a golf 2.0tdi with blue motion tech.

if you wrote a nice enough letter saying that you believe that 2.5 years / 30,000kms is an unreasonable lifetime for a clutch pack to fail within, you might not have to foot the bill for anything. If they still try and make you pay, tell them you are going to Consumer affairs regarding the matter and you will let them deal with it

Warrantee for these gearboxes have been officially extended to 5 years /150,000km. Because you are still within the original warrantee period this extends to you.

Does anyone know if you connect to the car VCDS whether it gives you the report / analysis of the Clutches and whether they are within the tolerable operating range?

Or is that some other fancy pants mystical VW analysis machine?
